Iga Swiatek launches her pursuit for a maiden Wuhan Open title when she comes up against Marie Bouzkova in the second round on Tuesday night.

Incredibly, this will be Swiatek's first ever match at the WTA 1000 tournament, with the Pole hoping to have recovered from a disappointing last tournament, where she crashed out to Emma Navarro in Beijing, dropping the deciding set 0-6 in the process. Before that, Swiatek had been in fantastic form, picking up three titles at Wimbledon, Cincinnati and Seoul and climbing back to No. 2 in the world.

Assuming she's regrouped from Beijing, this should be a relatively straightforward opening match for Swiatek in Wuhan. Bouzkova is a solid player, but I don't think she has the firepower to trouble an in-form Swiatek. The Pole won their only previous meeting by dropping just six games and I'm backing a similar sort of result here.

Swiatek has compiled a 59-14 record on the season, rising back to No. 2 in the world and now targeting a big finish to the year.

It was a challenging 12-month period for Swiatek as she failed to win a title, but she regained her form on the grass, taking home a maiden Wimbledon title and sixth Grand Slam trophy.

The 24-year-old backed it up by winning Cincinnati, but she couldn't keep the momentum going at the US Open, going down to Amanda Anisimova in the quarter-finals.

Swiatek bounced back by opening her Asian swing with a title in Seoul, but she ran out of gas in Beijing the following week, going down in three sets to Emma Navarro, copping a bagel in the decider.

Marie Bouzkova Form

Bouzkova has registered a 30-18 record on the season, really picking things up over the last few months.

It was a disastrous start to the year for Bouzkova, with the Czech only managing to win three main draw matches in the opening three months - and they all came at the very first tournament of 2025 in Brisbane.

However, Bouzkova has recaptured her best tennis since the summer hardcourt swing, winning her second career title in Prague, along with making the semi-finals in Monterrey, the third round in Montreal and the fourth round of Beijing last week.

Bouzkova is looking to extend her good form in Wuhan, where she advanced into the second round with a straight sets victory over Camila Osorio in her opening match.
