Coonamble Next Best Bet - Race 1 No. 5 Rising Fortune

Two encouraging fourth-place finishes from as many starts give Rising Fortune a solid platform heading into his third career appearance.

The most recent of those efforts came when resuming over 1100m at Scone on September 25, where the Rodney Northam-trained gelding tracked the speed before finishing three-and-a-half lengths from the winner on a Good 4 surface.

The rise to 1300m looks suitable for the son of Russian Revolution, while barrier two should allow Reece Jones to give him an economical run after partnering him in both previous starts.

A track downgrade would hold no concerns, with Rising Fortune having shown up well in his preparatory work and previously handling Soft conditions in his trials.

With two solid race-day efforts behind him, a favourable draw and further improvement likely, Rising Fortune looks capable of breaking through in the opener.

Nalder Family Country Boosted Showcase Class 3 Handicap Tips (Race 4)

Coonamble Value Bet - Race 4 No. 4 Yorkel

Two sound efforts on Soft ground this preparation suggest Yorkel is going well enough heading into his first start for the Kieren Hazelton stable.

The seven-year-old was fourth first-up at Mudgee before finishing fifth at Bathurst on September 13, racing prominently and being beaten just 1.7 lengths in BM58 company.

Both of his career victories have come around this distance, including a 1618m success at Dubbo, so the rise back to 1600m looks firmly in his favour.

The New Zealand-bred son of Swiss Ace has winning form on both Good and Soft ground, while barrier five gives Serg Lisnyy the opportunity to secure a suitable position without doing too much work early.

Lisnyy takes the ride for Hazelton and, with Yorkel staying at a trip that suits and arriving third-up, he looks capable of improving at a worthwhile price.

Coonamble Feature Bet - Race 7 No. 1 Reset The Jazz

Consistent form without winning has been the story of Reset The Jazz’s preparation, with consecutive third-place finishes giving him a strong lead-in to Sunday’s Coonamble Cup.

The latest came over 1600m at Mornington on September 26, where the gelding raced on speed in BM84 company and fought on strongly to finish less than two lengths from the winner.

That effort followed another third at Ballarat and continued a solid campaign for the eight-year-old, who has five career victories over the mile and handles both Good and rain-affected ground.

Barrier three is another positive for a horse who is most effective when allowed to roll forward and find a comfortable rhythm near the speed.

Ben, Will and JD Hayes combined with Kody Nestor to win this race last year, and with Nestor aboard again, Reset The Jazz looks well placed to give the combination another strong chance in the feature.

Coonamble Best Bet - Race 8 No. 9 Big Lon

A maiden breakthrough at Tamworth second-up this preparation confirmed the promise Big Lon had shown early in his career, and he has continued to race well in two starts since.

The three-year-old was third over 1100m at Wyong before dropping back to 900m at Scone on September 25, where he was ridden with restraint from a wide barrier and stayed on strongly to finish fourth, beaten two lengths.

That latest run was better than the bare result after he was crowded at the start and held up on straightening, while the return to 1100m looks suitable given he has already placed twice over the distance.

Big Lon handles both Good and Soft conditions and remains open to further improvement on just his sixth career start, with Liam Riordan taking the ride from barrier five.

The sole three-year-old in the field bypassed a Port Macquarie assignment to head here and, with a more suitable distance and the chance to settle closer in running, David Hatch’s representative looks capable of making that decision pay off.
