Rosehill hosts a quality Saturday program on October 10, with the Gloaming Stakes, Tapp-Craig, Alan Brown Stakes and The Nivison among the key races across the card.

There is plenty of depth through the meeting, with emerging three-year-olds, established Group performers and several runners building towards bigger spring targets.

For the latest odds on the major spring features, explore the Group 1 Futures Markets.

Rosehill Tips October 10

Schweppes Gloaming Stakes Tips (Race 4)

Rosehill Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 1 Cormier

The record of Aaron Bullock when combining with the Paul Messara and Leah Gavranich stable is an imposing one, with the partnership striking at almost 38% over the past 12 months from 28 winners.

Bullock should have a good understanding of Cormier, having ridden him in four of his five starts, and from barrier one he can make better use of the colt getting out to a more suitable 1800m.

Breeding suggests the rise in distance will suit the son of Maurice, who is out of Australasian Oaks winner Abbey Marie, while his late two-year-old form included a maiden victory followed by consecutive seconds behind Tron Bolt, the latest coming in the Group 1 J.J. Atkins.

Cormier was specked at a big price in the Golden Rose last start and looked a little lost when the sprint went on before beginning to build momentum at a key stage, only for the tiring favourite to drop back into his lap, making the eighth-place finish better than the margin suggests.

This is a sharp drop in grade from his two September assignments and, with the raw colt likely heading towards races such as the Spring Champion Stakes and potentially the Victoria Derby, settling into a more comfortable rhythm over 1800m can see him bring up win number two at a fair early price.

DrinkWise Tapp-Craig Tips (Race 5)

Rosehill Roughie - Race 5 No. 9 Harrybegood

The early market for the Tapp-Craig looks interesting, with last-start maiden winner Chuchichaschtli prominent despite facing significantly more depth, while Revengeance may well start shorter after an encouraging Run To The Rose performance second-up.

Harrybegood is another with plenty of ability who still has not completely put things together, and the Kris Lees-trained gelding looks far too talented to dismiss at the $40-plus available early.

He did plenty wrong during his first preparation but continued to show promise, before James McDonald took the ride when he resumed as a gelding at Hawkesbury and Harrybegood broke through impressively in a Super Maiden.

Two placings have followed, including his latest Warwick Farm third when dropping slightly in distance and settling back in a race shape that favoured those racing closer to the speed.

His closing sectionals on that occasion were more than respectable both for the race and the meeting, and while he may ultimately come into his own as an autumn three-year-old, a strong fitness base for this 1400m feature gives him enough upside to measure up at a massive price.

Alan Brown Stakes Tips (Race 8)

Rosehill Feature Bet - Race 8 No. 5 Sepals

The class of Sepals is well established, with the lightly raced five-year-old having shown plenty from his first preparation as a three-year-old before progressing to Group 1 level.

His breakthrough at the highest level came in last year’s Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, where he produced a brave on-speed performance in a strongly run race, before completing that campaign with a respectable Golden Eagle effort behind Autumn Glow.

Sepals returned with a good Newmarket Handicap performance in March, disappointed in the Doncaster Prelude before being spelled and, in winter, arguably should have won the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap, where the winner carried less weight and enjoyed a much softer passage while he was forced to concede ground and come wide.

The Cliff Brown-trained gelding lost no admirers when attempting to defend his Sir Rupert Clarke crown first-up on September 19, finishing runner-up to Angel Capital in a race that suited the fitter winner and confirming he had returned in excellent order.

With that run under the belt, Jamie Mott travelling north for the ride and the possibility of finding a good stalking position despite the wider draw, Sepals looks ideally placed in this $1.5 million feature and can take out the Alan Brown Stakes.

The Nivison Tips (Race 9)

Rosehill Value Bet - Race 9 No. 16 Oui Oui Oui

There is little doubt Oui Oui Oui would have been aimed towards a race such as this, with connections still searching for a first black-type victory and the mare having already demonstrated how effective she can be fresh.

That was evident when she resumed last spring and opened the preparation with a winning hat-trick, while her autumn campaign may have come around a little quickly after she was back in work by late December but still managed a runner-up finish in a Provincial-Midway Championships Qualifier on February 19.

Her subsequent Group 3 appearance at Rosehill was better than the result after she encountered little luck, before she was spelled following a plain performance in the Provincial-Midway Championships Final.

Jason Attard has given the five-year-old plenty of time since, with her trial work particularly encouraging through a win on August 28 and a Rosehill hit-out on September 22, where she finished second behind Group 1 winner Caballus without being knocked around late under Tom Sherry.

Her 1400m victories came in much lower company and she may be even more dangerous around these sprint trips, making her a genuine threat with a big finish at a good price in the penultimate.

Chandon Handicap Tips (Race 10)

Rosehill Best Bet - Race 10 No. 9 Fierce

Team Hawkes prepare Fierce, a lightly raced son of Capitalist from the same family as dual Group 1-winning sprinter Merchant Navy, with the four-year-old heading in the right direction and already boasting a strong record of three wins and two placings from six starts.

This preparation opened in style with a dominant Warwick Farm victory on August 19, while his subsequent Canterbury runner-up effort was still full of merit behind the talented Whatalegacy, who carried 2.5kg less and was able to control the race from the front.

Fierce never stopped trying in that fast-run event despite being unable to reel in the leader, and the performance should have topped him off nicely for this third-up assignment.

Although this is technically a rise in grade, the BM78 lacks significant depth and Fierce drops 3.5kg from his latest appearance, while remaining at 1100m suits a gelding who possesses a sharp turn-of-foot.

There is speed drawn to his outside, which should allow Tyler Schiller to hold a position from barrier six, track the leaders with cover and produce Fierce late, with Mercy Me perhaps the main danger if she can roll forward and lead.
