Morphettville Next Best Bet - Race 1 No. 1 Ole Go

All eyes in the Morphettville opener will be on the resuming Ole Go, a talented colt from the Michael Hickmott yard who created an impression on debut over this track and trip on January 31 with a comfortable victory in a two-year-old handicap.

It was only a small field, but runner-up Big Wigs subsequently finished second behind the smart Medicinal at Ballarat before taking out the $1 million VOBIS Platinum Showdown at Caulfield, while he has also been competitive at Group 3 level this season.

Ole Go was narrowly defeated when resuming in the Listed Without Fear Stakes on April 11 behind Verzain, who then won the Group 3 Breeders’ Stakes in which Ole Go failed as an odds-on favourite, although there were excuses with the youngster pulling up lame before heading to the paddock.

He could hardly have been more impressive in a Morphettville Parks trial on September 28, bolting in by more than five lengths under regular rider Todd Pannell in what was comfortably the fastest 800m heat of the morning.

Ole Go will have plenty of admirers fresh, while Our Brave Boy is an interesting rival after a luckless Murray Bridge return and also brings some solid Victorian form references into the race.

Morphettville Roughie - Race 3 No. 4 Skytalker

Skytalker has made the move from Western Australia to South Australia with trainer Indianna Weinert, and while his overall strike rate is modest, the gelding showed enough ability in the west to suggest he can be competitive in this grade.

His previous campaign included a first-up Bunbury victory before a consistent run of form without another win, with several placings following through summer and early autumn.

The six-year-old has looked in good touch in two South Australian starts, arguably unlucky not to win first-up at Bordertown on September 11 when beaten narrowly before drawing wide in a Murray Bridge Class 2 on September 26.

Although he jumped well at Murray Bridge, the barrier forced him back through the field before he worked home strongly, recording the second-fastest final 200m of the race.

Skytalker stays in the same grade third-up, carries 1.5kg less and gets a much kinder draw for Harry Grace, and after attracting support in both South Australian appearances, he looks capable of giving this open contest a shake at double-figure odds.

Vale John Nelligan Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Morphettville Value Bet - Race 7 No. 11 Anahorish

Still lightly raced for a five-year-old, the Phillip and Tommy Stokes-trained Anahorish has had just 10 starts and remains open to further improvement.

The daughter of Shamus Award broke through on the Morphettville main circuit in December last year with a comfortable maiden victory as an odds-on favourite before recording her second success at Murray Bridge in March when stepping out to 1400m.

A disappointing subsequent Adelaide performance brought that preparation to an end, but her two August runs this campaign carried plenty of merit given much of her better form has come on firmer surfaces.

Anahorish was runner-up on the Parks circuit on August 15 before finishing fourth-of-14 in a Class 2 Handicap on the main track a fortnight later, a race that has produced three subsequent winners.

Freshened since that latest appearance, she now rises to 1200m on the spacious Morphettville main track, where Harry Grace can allow her to find her feet before winding up late, giving the mare genuine each-way claims.

Quayclean Handicap Tips (Race 9)

Morphettville Best Bet - Race 9 No. 2 Bred 'Em All

Bred ’Em All caught the eye in his second public hit-out ahead of Saturday’s return, going to the line and arguably working better than highly regarded South Australian sprinter Watchme Win in a September 28 Morphettville Parks trial.

The Richard and Chantelle Jolly-trained gelding made an immediate impression during his first preparation, winning a BM62 on debut at Morphettville Parks before stepping into a three-year-old BM64 on Goodwood Day and again saluting as favourite in race that's produced five subsequent winners.

Connections then crossed the border for a three-year-old handicap at Caulfield on May 30, where he finished ninth at the end of his first campaign, with that performance coming on a Heavy 8 surface and a slow recovery revealed post-race.

Bred ’Em All remains far less exposed than most of his rivals and should have plenty of upside, while Jake Toeroek has partnered him in both spring hit-outs after also riding him in his debut trial earlier this year.

He has enough natural speed to make use of the low draw and 60kg should not be a major impost over the shorter trip, and off that latest trial against Watchme Win, he should start a popular favourite.
