Melbourne Storm vs Sydney Roosters NRL Round 13 Tips & Prediction - Storm can't be trusted

The NRL Round 13 match sees the struggling Melbourne Storm face the resurgent Sydney Roosters. Although the Storm have historically dominated this fixture, their recent form is poor with just four wins from 12, mostly against weaker teams. The Roosters, sitting third, are tipped to recover from a surprise loss to the Cowboys and build on their strong momentum, with Sam Walker expected to shine. The advice is to back the Roosters to win and expect a high-scoring affair, although Sualauvi Fa'alogo remains a constant threat for Melbourne.

Melbourne Storm vs Sydney Roosters NRL Round 13 Tips & Prediction

It's a big Saturday night showdown down south as a struggling Storm side play host to a Roosters team determined to bounce back from their shock Magic Round loss to the Cowboys.

Melbourne are enduring a horror season, languishing in 15th spot on the ladder with just four wins from 12 games. It appeared as if the Storm might be turning things around, but their two wins over the last month were against the Tigers and Eels - two teams also struggling in the bottom half of the table - so I don't think you can read into those at all. The Storm then blew another half-time lead this season as they went down to a Bulldogs side who had lost five straight games last week.

Meanwhile, the Roosters were flying with six consecutive victories and scoring points for fun. No idea what happened during Magic Round as the Chooks' attack was blunted and they suffered a 18-12 upset loss to the Cowboys.

At the time of writing, less than 24 hours after Origin, it's hard to predict this one as a lot depends on who backs up, so I'm just going to assume every Blue and Maroon will play - and with that in mind, I just can't take the Storm given what they've dished up over the last couple of months.

I'm putting the Roosters' loss to North Queensland down as a random anomaly and they can get back on track here. Sam Walker had a huge Origin debut, despite the heartbreaking last-minute defeat, and should be confident in leading his side back into some point-scoring form, while James Tedesco was the hero for NSW and will want to pile more misery on his Queensland rivals Munster and Grant, so backing the Overs. Sualauvi Fa'alogo remains the Storm's biggest threat and is backed for a 13th four-pointer of the season - bit of extra juice for first or last try too.
  • Roosters have won six of their last seven games
  • Storm have lost eight of their last 10 games
  • Roosters have seen Over 48.5 points in five of their last seven games
  • Storm have seen 50+ points in two of their last three games
  • The last three meetings have seen 50+ points
  • Sualauvi Fa'alogo has scored 12 tries in 12 games this season - he's also been the first or last tryscorer in three games

Storm vs Roosters Head To Head

Storm have prevailed in seven of the last eight meetings between the teams, but the Roosters were dominant 40-10 winners in the most-recent clash.

Melbourne Storm Form Analysis

Just a tough season for the Storm - they continue to make cheap errors and their poor discipline is costing them.

Eight defeats from their last 10 games as left the Storm down in 15th spot on the ladder - and with the Origin period underway, it's going to be a massive mountain to climb if they're to mirror Penrith from last year and make a late surge towards the finals.

Melbourne suffered another collapse last week against the Bulldogs, blowing a half-time lead and going down 30-20 as they failed to build on their 13+ wins over the Eels and Tigers in previous weeks.

Sydney Roosters Form Analysis

The Roosters come into this contest with a 7-3 record on the season and sitting in third spot on the ladder.

Overall, the Roosters have improved their own poor discipline and ball control that has plagued them over the last couple of seasons, but their's still chinks in their armour.

After a brilliant six-game winning streak in which they scored 30+ points in five, the Roosters were stunned 18-12 by the Cowboys during Magic Round. Trent Robinson will demand a response after last week's bye.

Storm vs Roosters Team News

Queensland Origin stars Cameron Munster, Harry Grant and Trent Loiero have all been named to back up and start for Melbourne. Keagan Russell-Smith is a chance to come in for Munster, who missed some training sessions in the lead-up to Origin. Alec MacDonald replaces Shawn Blore in the starting team.

James Tedesco, Victor Radley, Reece Robson, Rob Toia, Lindsay Collins and Sam Walker have all been selected for the Roosters - but a final call will be made in the coming days. Billy Smith also replaces the injured Daniel Tupou in the backline.

Storm remain in poor form - backing the Roosters to bounce back and consolidate their top four spot. Faalago can still cross for Melbourne.
