Errol Spence Jr returns to the ring after a three-year hiatus, facing Tim Tszyu in Sydney. Despite concerns about ring rust, Spence Jr is favored to win thanks to superior skills, knockout power, and elite experience – his only loss coming against Terence Crawford. Tszyu, once WBO light-middleweight champion, has struggled recently, losing 3 of his last 6 fights (2 by KO). Tim Tszyu vs Errol Spence Jr Verdict

Tim Tszyu goes head to head with Errol Spence Jr in Sydney, but the Australia is set to fall at the hands of the comeback king.

Ring rust is a concern, with Spence Jr having been out for so long, but he is the more skilled fighter and has a wealth of experience to draw on, as well as fight-finishing power.

  • Tim Tszyu has lost 3 of his previous 6 fights
  • 22 of Errol Spence Jr’s 28 wins have come by KO/TKO

Tim Tszyu Form - 3 Losses In 6 Fights

Tim Tszyu is a former WBO light-middleweight champion with a professional record of 27-3 (18 KOs).

Tszyu – the son of Australian legend Kostya – entered the pro ranks in December 2016 and rattled off 21 straight victories to secure his first world title fight in March 2023.

That night he took on Tony Harrison for the interim WBO light-middleweight championship, and he came away with the belt thanks to a ninth-round knockout victory.

The 31-year-old then successfully retained the interim crown with an 88-second demolition of Carlos Ocampo before being upgraded to full champion status.

Tszyu’s first outing as the WBO champion was a successful one as he beat Brian Mendoza on points in October 2023, but that would prove to be his only victorious outing as champion.

He lost the belt to Sebastian Fundora via split decision in March 2024 – missing out on adding the WBC championship in that contest.

The Australian then failed to claim the IBF light-middleweight crown in October of that year as he was knocked out in the third round by Bakhram Murtazailev.

Tszyu bounced back from those defeats with a fourth-round knockout of Joseph Spencer in April 2025, but failed to follow that up a couple of months later as he was stopped in seven rounds by WBC light-middleweight champion Fundora.

He at least ended the year on a positive note though, beating Anthony Velasquez on points, and he backed that up in April when he out-pointed Denis Nunja over 10 rounds.

Errol Spence Jr - 3-Year Absence

Errol Spence Jr is a former unified welterweight world champion with a professional record of 28-1 (22 KOs).

Spence Jr turned professional in late 2012 following a highly successful amateur career, and he wasted little time in climbing the ladder, earning his first world title fight with a sixth-round knockout of Leonard Bundu in August 2016.

He travelled to the United Kingdom for his big chance in May 2017, facing Kell Brook in the IBF welterweight’s home town of Sheffield, and he took apart the champion on his way to an 11th round stoppage win.

The 36-year-old American made his first defence of that crown on home soil the following January, stopping Lamont Peterson in the seventh round.

A couple of months later Spence Jr knocked out Carlos Ocampo in just round, before kicking off his 2019 schedule with a unanimous decision win over Mikey Garcia.

That set up a unification clash with WBC champion Shawn Porter in September of that year, and Spence Jr was able to add another world title to his collection thanks to a split decision success.

‘The Truth’ retained his WBC and IBF titles in his only outing of 2020, beating Danny Garcia on points, and in April 2022 he was able to add the WBA (Super) belt to his collection with a 10th round knockout of Yordenis Ugas.

However, Spence Jr’s reign was finally ended in July 2023, when he was knocked out by Terence Crawford in the ninth round, and he has not fought since.

Verdict

It has been a long time since Errol Spence Jr stepped in the ring, so there are some concerns over ring rust.

However, there is no doubting that he is the better fighter and his only defeat so far came against one of the very best the sport has seen, so we are giving ‘The Truth’ the benefit of the doubt.
