Goulburn Tips May 29

Goulpro Maiden Plate Tips (Race 3)

Goulburn Favourite - Race 3 No. 6 Fortythreebeans

This daughter of Shamus Award was supported on debut in a $50,000 Super Maiden at Wagga and did not have many favours in that April 19 attempt.

Fortythreebeans settled off the speed and covered ground throughout in a race that suited both the leader and the runner-up, who settled rails-in-run.

The three-year-old was then favourite again when stepping to 1400m at Wagga on April 30 and it was somewhat of a mixed effort.

She loomed ominously there before hitting a flat spot, although Fortythreebeans did pick up again fairly late in the race.

The filly now comes back slightly in distance after a freshen-up and the latest country maiden has already produced three subsequent winners, while Ashley Morgan taking the ride is another positive.

Goulburn Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 2 Vinolass

A lightly raced six-year-old from the Dryden & Snowden stable, Vinolass showed above-average ability early in her career.

The mare recorded a winning hat-trick before placing in a metro BM72 and all four of those performances came on rain-affected ground.

While there have been setbacks and misses since that promising period, wet conditions may simply be what Vinolass is looking for.

She has failed in her past two starts, although both came in stronger company and the only time she has seen a Soft track this campaign was in the Flat Knacker at Albury.

Vinolass finished fourth in that sprint feature and arguably should have gone closer, while the slight drop in trip and weaker race on Friday are both positives.

Goulburn Value Bet - Race 6 No. 4 Roy Kelton

There were clearly issues with Roy Kelton, who spent close to three years off the scene after first trialling in July 2023.

There has also appeared to be a decent opinion of the gelding, with the market respecting him in both autumn appearances off two decent trials.

Roy Kelton was no match for Kirwans Bridge on debut, although he worked home well late as a runner-up.

That winner almost franked the form next start with a narrow defeat, while the Moruya effort second-up again suggested further would suit the five-year-old.

Another rise in trip looks favourable on Friday and the wide draw may also suit given his racing pattern.

Goulburn Best Bet - Race 8 No. 2 Olington Lane

Moruya trainer Lauren Davies appears to have a handy horse on her hands with Olington Lane, a three-year-old who justified favouritism on debut at the Sapphire Coast on March 30.

Not much went right there, with the gelding inconvenienced at the start before being held up in the straight.

Despite the restricted room and hanging at key stages, Olington Lane still got clear late to record a stylish win on a Soft 7 surface.

The gelding then returned to Goulburn on a Good 4 track and, despite drifting in betting after more than five weeks between runs, still finished strongly to make it two straight victories.

There is more weight to carry this time around, although the scale is compressed and the rise to seven furlongs also looks suitable.
