Prognosis (barrier 5) is a five-time winner (last three at Group 2 level) over 2000m and the latest triumph came in March when saluting by five lengths.
The Japanese-based entire had been competitive against Romantic Warrior either side of that win, which includes a close runner-up finish two starts back at Group 1 level when contesting the Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Sha Tin.
He was beaten as an odds-on favourite last time out via the the Group 2 Sapporo Kinen, where a slow start proved costly and the son of Deep Impact now gets the services of Damian Lane, who saluted aboard Lys Gracieux in 2019 and that was the first Cox Plate victory for Japan.
Pride Of Jenni (barrier 7) was brave in defeat when runner-up in the King Charles III Stakes on October 19 and that Randwick attempt followed a 1600m Moonee Valley win via the Feehan Stakes, which has proven to be a hot form race.
The Ciaron Maher-trained mare took out the 2023 Champions Mile via her last try on the seven-day turnaround, although interstate travel is added in for this attempt.
Via Sistina (barrier 4) has accepted despite mishap on Tuesday morning at Moonee Valley, where she dumped James McDonald before completing three laps of the circuit without a rider.
The Chris Waller-trained import bouncing back to winning form last start when taking out the Turnbull Stakes.
Broadsiding (barrier 8) remains firm in the Cox Plate market despite a Caufield Guineas defeat as a $1.80 favourite and the Godolphin colt will carry just 49.5kg for his first try at 2000m.
He'll be joined by Evaporate (barrier 6), who is also coming from the Caulfield Guineas and the in-form youngster was brave in third via that three-year-old feature.
Mr Brightside (barrier 2) is looking to atone from a narrow defeat in last year's Cox Plate, however, the seven-time Group 1 winner still hasn't won in tries at 2000m+ and that includes a last start second as an odds-on fav in the Might And Power Stakes.
Kovalica (barrier 9) will make his Melbourne debut in the Cox Plate and while the gelding hasn't won since taking out the 2023 Queensland Derby, his two runs this campaign have both been encouraging and he got the better of Royal Patronage (barrier 3) in the latest of those.
The Waterhouse & Bott-trained entire hasn't finished out of the money in four Australian appearances so far, with the highlight coming first-up when winning the Group 2 Tramway Stakes.
English raider Docklands (barrier 1) was well beaten last start when seventh-of-thirteen in the Group 1 Juddmonte International, but his prior form was consistent and that includes a runner-up finish in the Queen Anne Stakes over Royal Ascot 2024.

Inaugurated in 1922 when Tangalooma took out the event, it’s a genuine who’s who of racing that’s taken this event out.
The champions list includes the likes of four-time winner Winx, three-time winner Kingston Town, star galloper Northerly and the inimitable Phar Lap.
State Of Rest (2021), Anamoe (2022) and Romantic Warrior (2023) have won the last three editions of The W.S. Cox Plate.
