Canterbury Tips June 8

Schweppes Handicap Tips (Race 3)

Canterbury Best Bet - Race 3 No. 9 Events

Events has shown up well in all three starts to date, registering top-three finishes on each occasion.

Her maiden success came by just under half a length in an 1100m event at this venue in April, where the youngster raced prominently after jumping from an inside barrier.

The three-year-old faced previous winners for the first time at Benchmark 68 level at Randwick Kensington last month.

Facing seven rivals, the filly delivered a highly creditable effort in finishing third, with a bump soon after the start affecting her chances when stepped up to 1300m.

A change of tactics saw the pick race from midfield that day, with Chad Schofield again taking the ride, and the youngster remains open to improvement as she looks capable of recording the second success of her career.

All Too Hard @ Vinery Stud Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Canterbury Value Bet - Race 5 No. 3 Sting In The Tail

Sting In The Tail performed well over further last prep, ending the campaign with a 2200m success at Warwick Farm in December.

Racing on a sound surface, the mare came home more than a length clear of her 11 rivals at Benchmark 64 level.

The five-year-old returned from a spell with an encouraging third in a 1500m Benchmark 78 event at Randwick Kensington in April.

The mare was racing over a distance short of her best that day, and while she disappointed at Warwick Farm subsequently, it is worth overlooking that effort, which came on a Heavy 8 track.

The step up in distance is a positive, and Chris Waller's mare boasts winning course form, with the New Zealand-bred looking value to record her third success of the season.

TAB Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Canterbury Feature Bet - Race 7 No. 11 Memoria

Memoria has been lightly raced since finishing down the field at Rosehill in July last year.

The mare has made just four starts since ending her previous preparation with a four-length triumph at the Gold Coast in March.

Racing on a Soft 5 surface, the mare recorded an easy success over 1200m in an Open Handicap, making all the running under Sean Cormack after jumping well.

Kris Lees' representative was subsequently spelled and advertised her well-being with a trial win at Gosford last month.

The Caravaggio mare is versatile with regard to both tactics and underfoot conditions, draws well in barrier six and is often at her best fresh, with Tim Clark's mount looking capable of saluting on her return.

Ranvet Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Canterbury Next Best Bet - Race 8 No. 5 Dashing Rupert

Dashing Rupert is without a win since scoring at Kembla Grange just over 13 months ago.

However, the gelding has produced some good efforts in defeat since, including a third-place finish at Newcastle when resuming last preparation.

Racing on a Soft 5 surface, the gelding was beaten just over half a length in a 1350m event.

The four-year-old ended that campaign with a fair sixth-place finish against eight rivals in a Benchmark 72 handicap at Randwick Kensington in January.

Ashley Morgan's mount has demonstrated tactical versatility in the past, which is a positive from a wide barrier, and he advertised his well-being with a barrier trial third at Hawkesbury last week, while two of his four wins have come first-up.
