Expert analysis for NRL 2026 Round 14 highlights the Canterbury Bulldogs as the team to back to cover the spread against an out-of-form Parramatta Eels side. The Eels have been leaking points at an average of 33 per game recently, while the Bulldogs have dominated field position despite execution issues. Both teams have underperformed in attack, making the Under 49.5 points market attractive. Jacob Kiraz's scoring streak adds value, and history supports a close, low-scoring contest with Bulldogs as favourites.

Canterbury Bulldogs vs Parramatta Eels, Round 14 2026 - Expert Prediction

Canterbury are the play on Monday afternoon, with the Bulldogs backed to cover the 5.5-point line against a Parramatta side that continues to leak points at an alarming rate.

The Dogs have been frustrating over the last month, but this is the right matchup for them to bounce back. They had enough field position and attacking-half pressure to beat the Tigers last week, only for poor execution and a few key moments to cost them.

That performance was better than the scoreboard suggested, with the Bulldogs producing 78 tackles in the attacking half and 37 tackles inside the opposition 20.

Parramatta showed plenty of fight against Newcastle, but the same problems remain. The Eels have lost four of their last five, are conceding 32.2 points per game across that stretch and have allowed 407 points across the season at an average of 33 per game.

That is why the Bulldogs line appeals. Canterbury should be able to win the field-position battle through Matt Burton and Lachlan Galvin, while Jacob Kiraz at fullback gives them a dangerous runner around tired defenders and broken defensive shape.

The Under 49.5 is also in play. Both sides have struggled for attacking consistency, with Canterbury averaging 17.2 points and Parramatta 19.0 across their last five matches. This should be more grind than shootout.

  • The Bulldogs have won 3 of the last 4 matches against the Eels
  • 8 of the last 10 matches between the Bulldogs and Eels has gone under the game total.
  • 4 of the last 5 Eels matches have gone under the game total.
  • Jacob Kiraz has scored in 4 straight matches.

Head to Head

This rivalry has been close in recent seasons, with Canterbury winning three of the last four meetings despite Parramatta taking the most recent clash 38-20 in Round 7.

The Bulldogs won both meetings in 2025, beating the Eels 16-8 at CommBank Stadium before a more convincing 30-12 victory at Accor Stadium. Canterbury also won 22-18 in 2024.

Canterbury Bulldogs Form Analysis

Canterbury are running out of time to keep their season alive, but there were enough signs in the loss to Wests Tigers to suggest a response is coming.

The Bulldogs lost 22-16, but they dominated long stretches of field position and created more than enough pressure to win the game. The issue was execution. Kurt Mann struggled with service from dummy-half, the attack lacked polish near the line and a controversial charge-down ruling helped swing the game away from them.

The Dogs have now lost four of their last five and are averaging just 17.2 points across that period, so there is no pretending they are in great form.

Parramatta Eels Form Analysis

Parramatta were brave against Newcastle, but brave losses have become a theme.

The Eels pushed the Knights all the way in a 28-22 defeat and probably left points on the field through poor execution. Jason Ryles admitted post-game that Parramatta may have bombed several tries, which sums up where this team is at.

There is effort in the side, but the polish is missing. Mitchell Moses remains out, Ronald Volkman and Joash Papalii are still building combinations, and the forward pack is working hard without consistently giving the backline clean looks.

Defence is the bigger problem. Parramatta have conceded 407 points this season and are allowing 33 points per game. Across their last five matches they have given up 32.2 per game, which makes it hard to trust them away from home.
