Brazil enters the 2026 World Cup with tempered expectations, lacking the usual galaxy of superstars but still boasting a talented squad under the legendary Carlo Ancelotti. With Vinicius Jr, Casemiro, and Marquinhos leading the charge, Brazil is poised for a competitive campaign. Their group includes strong opponents like Morocco and Scotland, and while Neymar is likely to miss the early games due to injury, Brazil’s cohesive unit and tactical rigor could deliver a deep tournament run. Key bets suggest a quarter-final appearance is likely, with potential for more if they top their group.

Brazil World Cup 2026 Preview & Predictions

Expectations for Brazil at a World Cup are probably at their lowest, but don't rule out Carlo Ancelotti working his magic on this talented outfit in North America.

Look, it's definitely not vintage Brazil. There's a distinct lack of superstars like a Pele, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and so on, especially with Neymar aging and under an injury cloud. Although Vini Jr could propel himself into legendary status with a big tournament.

But the fact remains: this is a different Brazilian side with their own distinct style under the legendary Ancelotti, who is the first national team manager born on foreign soil since 1925.

Don't be shocked if the Selecao surprise and put together a deep run as they chase a record-extending sixth World Cup trophy - read on below for our full preview.

Brazil World Cup History

It's now been over two decades since Brazil last hoisted aloft the World Cup trophy in South Korea/Japan in 2022, with the legendary Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho and Roberto Carlos playing starring roles.

Brazil have only advanced past the quarter-finals once in the next five competitions, famously suffering an embarrassing 7-1 defeat to Germany on home soil in the 2014 semi-finals.

The Selecao were eliminated in the quarter-finals at Qatar 2022 by Croatia via penalties.

Brazil World Cup 2026 Squad

Ancelotti was quick to shoot down the lack of superstar talk when announcing his final 26-man squad ahead of the tournament.

The record five-time UEFA Champions League winning manager has galvanised the playing group and expects a cohesive unit when the competition gets underway.

"Sometimes, we talk a lot about how Brazil doesn't have a star. It might be true, we don't have Pele, Romario and Ronaldo, but we can have a shared responsibility," he told reporters.
"We've worked a lot on defense. We're going to work a lot on that. I don't want to take away the creativity of the attacking players. They have a lot of quality, I don't want to create confusion. Defensively, it's a daily piece of information until the last game of the World Cup. Our work is focused on that. The defenders, full-backs, midfielders, they all have a very important role."

Brazil World Cup 2026 Predicted Starting XI

Marquinhos and Gabriel Magalhaes provide a formidable central defensive pairing, with Casemiro and Bruno Guimaraes holding down the fort centrally in midfield. Allison will remain starting between the sticks.

Teenage sensation Endrick will likely start off the bench, while Neymar won't feature in the Group Stage and might be an outside chance to return from injury during the knockout phase.

Vini Jr is the main man, with Barcelona star Raphinha on the other wing. Igor Thiago might be rewarded for his great season with Brentford by getting the nod up front.

Brazil Starting XI

Brazil World Cup: Key Players

Vinicius Jr

Vini Junior is the player Brazil will look to as their primary match-winner at the 2026 World Cup. The explosive winger has developed into one of the world's elite attackers, winning multiple UEFA Champions League and La Liga titles with Real Madrid while emerging as a Ballon d'Or contender. Blessed with blistering pace, elite dribbling ability and a knack for creating something out of nothing, Vinicius is at his best when running directly at defenders and stretching opposition backlines.

He scored and assisted during Brazil's recent 6-2 World Cup warm-up win over Panama, underlining his importance to Carlo Ancelotti's side heading into the tournament. Vinicius also has previous World Cup experience, scoring against South Korea during Brazil's run to the quarter-finals in 2022, and now arrives as a far more complete player. With 48 caps and nine international goals, plus another prolific season for Real Madrid, he is expected to be the focal point of Brazil's attack and the player most capable of delivering the moments of brilliance needed to win a sixth World Cup title.

Casemiro

Casemiro remains the foundation of Brazil's midfield heading into the 2026 World Cup. The veteran midfielder has earned 85 caps and scored nine international goals, bringing a wealth of experience from multiple World Cups, Copa America campaigns and a trophy-laden club career that includes five UEFA Champions League titles with Real Madrid. Renowned for his defensive awareness, ball-winning ability and leadership, Casemiro excels at protecting the back four, breaking up opposition attacks and allowing Brazil's creative stars to play with freedom.

He also has a knack for delivering in big moments, most notably scoring the winning goal against Switzerland at the 2022 World Cup as Brazil advanced to the knockout stages. After returning to the national team under Ancelotti, Casemiro has become one of the squad's senior leaders, helping guide a talented blend of experienced stars and emerging youngsters.

Marquinhos

Marquinhos is the leader and defensive cornerstone of Brazil's 2026 World Cup campaign. The captain has amassed more than 100 international appearances and brings vast experience from competing at multiple World Cups, Copa América tournaments and winning numerous domestic titles with PSG. A composed and intelligent centre-back, Marquinhos combines excellent positioning, anticipation and ball-playing ability with strong leadership qualities, making him the organiser of Brazil's defence. His versatility allows him to excel both in a back four and a back three, while his calmness in possession helps Brazil build attacks from deep.

Throughout his career he has consistently performed at the highest level in club football, captaining PSG to multiple Ligue 1 and UEFA Champions League titles. With Brazil boasting an abundance of attacking talent, Marquinhos provides the stability, experience and authority at the back that every championship-winning team requires.

Brazil World Cup Schedule - Group Stage

Landing in Group C alongside Morocco, Scotland and Haiti, it's not an easy group for Brazil to navigate.

Morocco are coming off an African Cup of Nations triumph and finished fourth at the 2022 World Cup, while Scotland are determined to make an impact on their return to the big stage for the first time since 1998 - which ironically was against the same nations, expect for Haiti, who are expected to be the whipping boys of this group.

Nevertheless, Brazil are expected to take care of Scotland, which would mean the group winner could come down to their opening game with Morocco.

The Selecao have landed on the more favourable side of the draw and could have potential quarter-finals and semi-finals against England and Argentina.

Brazil World Cup: Best Bets

As mentioned earlier, don't sleep on Ancelotti's ability to galvanise this team, who probably enter this World Cup with the lowest expectations in their history.

It was a turbulent qualifying campaign for Brazil, who sacked two managers before employing the services of Ancelotti, with the Selecao ultimately finishing in fifth spot.

Brazil have looked strong in recent friendlies, beating Croatia 3-1 before crushing Panama 6-2, where their attacking talent was on full display.

I think a potential quarter-final with England is very winnable for Brazil, but that would rely on them beating Morocco and topping Group C. If they do that, then a run to the final isn't out of the question.

Prefer the dual forecast rather than straight and prepared to load up on this one. Haiti surely aren't springing any surprises, while Scotland look a class below these two nations.

Would be a massive shock if Brazil and Morocco didn't finish in the top two.

Brazil Top Team Goalscorer: Igor Thiago @ $7.00 with Dabble

Thiago is the value bet, with the likes of Vini Jr, Raphinha (who scored five goals in qualifying) and Neymar (who likely won't play until the knockout phase) all priced at shorter odds.

The 24-year-old scored 22 goals for Brentford in the EPL this past season, finishing behind only Erling Haaland. Thiago has scored twice in three appearances for Brazil and is a good chance to start up front in the group stage.
