Switzerland rounded out his spring with back-to-back victories and that includes an impressive straight-track performance when taking out the Coolmore Stud Stakes, which was his first win at Group 1 level.

This colt under the care of Chris Waller, with the champion trainer having prepared two of the last four winners of this race, while three-year-old's have been successful in two of the last three editions of the Black Caviar Lightning.

At $2.80 with PlayUp, Switzerland is favourite to win the 2025 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes.

Growing Empire ($3.30) recorded a hat-trick of Group 1 placings to round out his early three-year-old campaign, which includes a narrow Manikato Stakes defeat when attempting to open the prep with a winning hat-trick.

Ciaron Maher also prepares I Am Me ($6), who opened her 2024 spring prep with back-to-back victories, although the she is still searching for her first Group 1 triumph (has won five stakes stakes races).

Traffic Warden ($6.50) rounds out the single figure chances and while he was disappointing when contesting the Coolmore Stud Stakes prior to a spell, there were excuses in that defeat (EIPH).

Black Caviar Lightning Stakes Winners

Held in mid-February, the Black Caviar Lightning Stakes is one of Melbourne's top line 1000m sprinting events and one of Australia's best races.

Worth $1 million, the Lightning is one of two Group 1sprints held at Flemington during the Autumn, the other being the Newmarket Handicap.

The race was known just as the Lightning Stakes, but after the invincible Black Caviar was able to claim three in a row from 2011-13, the race was named in her honour.

Home Affairs (2022), Coolangatta (2023) and Imperatriz (2024) have won the last three editions of the Black Caviar Lightning Stakes.
