Belmont Value Bet - Race 1 No. 5 Hot Sea
The second foal out of Seannie, who was a stakes-winning two-year-old in the west, Hot Sea makes his Western Australian debut on Saturday.
He arrives off a nice Lark Hill trial in decent time for the May 18 set and was not knocked about when second in that heat.
There was a big boom around Hot Sea when prepared in Melbourne, having been heavily supported for the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes on debut.
The youngster finished third in that feature before a spell, while his only other appearance resulted in a runner-up finish as a $1.14 favourite at Moe, where the first two cleared right away from their rivals.
That winner, Blaze Away, saluted at Caulfield at his next appearance, so the form has stood up despite Hot Sea going down at a very short price there.
Janet Amaglio Memorial Handicap Tips (Race 2)
Belmont Next Best Bet - Race 2 No. 7 Bassett Hound
There was a big opinion of Bassett Hound over his first campaign, a three-run preparation over summer where things did not quite pan out.
That prep included an unlucky debut before two Ascot placings.
Bassett Hound atoned via a dominant April 29 resumption, where he made a mess of that maiden field when coming from back in the field.
The runner-up there was the handy My Danny Boy, who franked the form by breaking through at his next start before placing at Belmont on Wednesday.
The slight drop in trip is a query, although connections opted against a weaker midweek assignment for this race and, with confidence now restored after that return victory and 3kg less second-up, the Mitchell Pateman-trained galloper could easily go on with it.
PKF Perth - Hyperion Stakes Tips (Race 6)
Belmont Feature Bet - Race 6 No. 1 Western Empire
Only two runners sit at single-figure quotes in the Hyperion Stakes market, which is no surprise after they quinellaed the Belmont Sprint a fortnight ago.
Western Empire took out that Group 3 first-up following some strong trial work.
Rope Them In is the second market elect after finishing runner-up in that event.
He did have every chance to beat the favourite with a softer run in transit and race fitness on his side.
Western Empire is a deserving favourite despite drawing wide, while Our Paladin Al could be worth including at a big price after having little go right in two starts this preparation.
Tabtouch - Westspeed Platinum Series Ht2 Tips (Race 7)
Belmont Best Bet - Race 7 No. 3 Mt Shirataku
A lightly raced four-year-old from the powerful Williams camp, Mt Shirataku impressed early in his second campaign with back-to-back victories before a Belmont defeat.
There must have been a slight issue, giving him a spell after an eye-catching December 3 appearance when resuming.
His May 16 resumption was terrific without luck, sticking on for a brave and narrow second after covering ground.
That is a key form reference, with the second market elect here in Acorn coming out of the same race after enjoying a soft run before a plain fifth.
There should be more improvement to come from this gelding now second-up, and Lucy Fiore has a kinder draw at her disposal this time around.
Happy 19th Birthday Max Wishart Handicap Tips (Race 8)
Belmont Roughie - Race 8 No. 15 Gibraltar Gold
She arguably should have won when stepping to 1400m at Belmont on May 23, where Gibraltar Gold got back and was held up in restricted room at key stages before getting home for a fifth-of-12 finish.
That performance suggested the mile might be worth another try.
Her only previous attempt over this distance came deep into her last campaign, where she placed.
Although this is harder, the four-year-old does come back on the 54kg minimum here and is still only in One Metro company, and it is a field with questionable depth after Herault, a handy three-year-old who is clearly the one to beat.
Gibraltar Gold has class and, with even luck from a low draw, she's in with an each-way chance in the penultimate under Lucy Fiore, an in-form hoop who has a great association with the Fernies.
