A return to firmer ground saw Panova improve sharply to win the Group 1 Australasian Oaks on April 25, which was her first victory of the campaign, having rounded out her spring with back-to-back Group 3 victories.

The Chris Waller-trained filly ticked the 2000m box in that Adelaide triumph and now gets to 2200m, with a tick-over trial completed on May 25 at Warwick Farm.

In a competitive 2026 Queensland Oaks market with Unibet Australia, Panova is the $4.80 favourite.

Chris Waller also prepares Chispa ($5.50), a filly who relished the rise to 1800m when winning stylishly at Randwick-Kensington on May 13, and she followed that up with a second placing in The Roses on May 23, the main lead-up to the Queensland Oaks.

Waller is aiming for his fourth Queensland Oaks win, and the champion trainer struck in the Queensland Derby last Saturday when preparing the quinella in the May 30 feature.

Fireball Miss ($6) has been building well and the Ciaron Maher-trained filly was a stylish last-start winner of The Roses, with that May 23 appearance her first at 2000m.

The three-year-old is a half-sister to Femminile, who took out last year's South Australian Derby over 2500m.

Solid Gold ($7) could back up from the Queensland Derby, where she finished fifth as favourite, and that followed an eye-catching Australian debut in the Group 3 Rough Habit Plate on May 16.

Grand Omaha and Single Red (both $8) round out the single-figure chances in the 2026 Queensland Oaks market, and that pair finished third and fourth in The Roses respectively.

Queensland Oaks Winners

The Queensland Oaks dates back to 1951 and has been won by some of the great fillies and mares of Australasian racing, including champions such as Surround, Ethereal and Winx.

Held during the Brisbane Winter Carnival, the Group 1 feature has long been regarded as one of Australia’s premier staying tests for three-year-old fillies, with many winners progressing to elite-level success later in their careers.

From 1973 to 2014, the Queensland Oaks was run over 2400m before being reduced to 2200m in 2015, returning to 2400m in 2016 and then shifting back to 2200m in 2017, which has remained the current distance.

Amokura (2023), Socks Nation (2024) and You Wahng (2025) have won the past three editions of the Queensland Oaks.
