Headwater @ Vinery Stud Handicap Tips (Race 2)
Canterbury Best Bet - Race 2 No. 2 Cantero
Prepared by Team Hawkes, Cantero is a well-bred son of Spirit Of Boom out of Tikal, a Denman mare who hasn't produced a slow one, with five-time Stakes winner Casino Seventeen the best performed of her progeny.
The three-year-old opened his career with a runner-up finish over 1200m in a Canterbury Super Maiden on August 12, where he was forced to settle at the rear from a wide gate before making strong late ground and recording the fastest closing sectionals of the race.
He may also have simply run into a smart one in Savagram, a well-bred colt who was heavily backed that day and is currently on the second line of betting for Saturday's Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes at Rosehill.
Tyler Schiller now has barrier two at his disposal, which should allow Cantero to settle much closer and enjoy a more economical run at just his second race-day appearance.
The Hawkes yard has been going well with lightly raced gallopers this month, with Epic, Fierce, Moscow Maid and St Johann all winning in August, and Schiller was aboard for the latter three of those victories.

Canterbury Value Bet - Race 3 No. 2 Dubai Warrior
Like the rest of the field, Dubai Warrior was simply no match for the smart and progressive Aethelwulf over this track-and-trip on August 5.
The stablemate took control of that race, with Dubai Warrior leading but ultimately lacking the class of the winner, and there is nothing of that calibre chasing him this time around.
Although still unproven over this journey, the five-year-old should now be at peak fitness with four winter runs under the belt following a lengthy layoff.
He had been building fairly earlier in the campaign and broke through over a mile at Wyong on July 23, with that victory better than the narrow margin suggests after racing wide and working throughout on the tight-turning circuit.
More rain-affected ground is another positive, with all four career wins coming on Soft tracks and a record of four wins and two placings from six starts on that surface, while he has also placed in his only previous Heavy-track attempt.
TAB Handicap Tips (Race 4)
Canterbury Roughie - Race 4 No. 7 Totoka
While Totoka is always going to need some luck in running because of her racing pattern, conditions may finally be falling her way on Wednesday.
She arrives off a fifth-of-10 over this same track, trip and grade on August 12, where she settled at the rear and produced the fastest last 800m, 600m and 400m of the race.
The mare was a touch disappointing when stretched to 1350m at Wyong prior to that, and it has become increasingly clear that keeping her to the shorter sprint trips is the better option.
That was evident when she returned in distance after two unsuccessful 1800m attempts through late autumn, winning a provincial BM64 on June 7 before finishing runner-up over 1200m at Wyong behind Written Scandal, who has been competitive in metropolitan company either side of that victory.
Wet ground has also been the key to Totoka throughout her career, with only one placing from 11 starts on Good tracks compared with a much stronger record on Soft and Heavy surfaces, while her maiden victory was also recorded at Canterbury.
Ranvet Handicap Tips (Race 6)
Canterbury Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 7 Miss Trentino
The main query with Miss Trentino is whether she is still one run short second-up from a lengthy break, although the each-way price makes that easier to overlook.
She was much shorter in the market when resuming over this track-and-trip on August 12 after almost 330 days off, giving a good sight on speed before fitness understandably gave out late.
The daughter of Per Incanto now carries 3kg less after Jett Newman's claim, with that first-up run having followed two winter trial victories in decent heats.
Her latest trial came over 1050m at Randwick, where she defeated Althoff, who subsequently backed up a strong fresh effort with a Rosehill victory on August 15.
Miss Trentino's previous campaign ended with a winning hat-trick, including a Canterbury 1100m victory over Miss Freelove, who later won three races last season including at Listed level and while the pressure up front may set things up for favourite Taxation, Miss Trentino will make her own luck on speed.
