Daniil Medvedev opens his Winston-Salem campaign against Martin Damm, with recent form showing Medvedev's vulnerability against lower-ranked opponents. Despite a strong record, Medvedev has dropped sets in most recent such matches and seeks confidence ahead of the US Open. Damm, known for his powerful serve, poses a challenge but is the clear underdog. The prediction leans toward Medvedev winning in three sets, with viewers advised to watch closely for possible upsets. Daniil Medvedev vs Martin Damm ATP Winston-Salem Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Daniil Medvedev has dropped 1+ set in four of his last five matches against players outside the top 90 - the World No. 8 remains vulnerable as he begins his Winston-Salem Open campaign on Tuesday against the big-serving Martin Damm.

Medvedev has a solid 9-2 record against players outside the top 90 this season, but it hasn't been easy for him, with the Russian dropping at least one set in four of his last five such meetings.

He's taken a wildcard into Winston-Salem and decided to play the week before a slam, which says all you need to know - Medvedev is struggling and desperate to restore some confidence and winning momentum ahead of the US Open.

Which means Medvedev should be taking this match fairly seriously. I don't think he'll want to stay in Winston-Salem until the weekend, but a couple of match wins is definitely needed at the moment.

Damm isn't the best matchup for Medvedev if he wants to find some rhythm. The American has a thunderous serve and won't offer much in terms of long baseline exchanges.

At the end of the day, Medvedev remains one of the most volatile and hot-headed players on tour, prone to a massive outburst at any moment. If Damm serves well, he can win at least a set, but I'm going to tentatively side with the top seed in three.
  • Medvedev has lost 1+ set in four of his last five matches vs players outside the top 90
  • Medvedev has won nine of his 11 matches vs players outside the top 90 this season (5-0 on hard)
  • Medvedev has a 20-7 record on hardcourt this season
  • Medvedev has won his last six matches in Winston-Salem
  • Damm is 0-3 vs top 10 players, but won a set in his most-recent meeting vs Shelton in Washington

Daniil Medvedev Form Analysis

  • 2026 ATP Record: 31-14
  • ATP Winston-Salem Record: 6-1
  • Current Ranking: No. 8
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 1 (2022)

It seems like a lifetime ago when Medvedev won the US Open and hit the No. 1 ranking.

It's been a wild last few years for the Russian and while he's got back inside the top 10, he's still nowhere near his best - at least not consistently.

There were some encouraging signs at the start of the year, with Medvedev winning the Brisbane and Dubai titles, along with beating Carlos Alcaraz on his way to the Indian Wells final.

However, since then, Medvedev has struggled with a 14-10 record and failing to make another final - although he did reach the semi-finals on the clay of Rome.

Medvedev hasn't had an enjoyable summer so far in North America - he lost his opening match in Canada to Botic Van De Zandschulp in straight sets before losing his second match in Cincinnati to the in-form Brandon Nakashima.

The 30-year-old is playing Winston-Salem for the first time since winning the title back in 2018.

Martin Damm Form Analysis

  • 2026 ATP Record: 7-11
  • ATP Winston-Salem Record: 0-0
  • Current Ranking: No. 92
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 92 (August 2026)

It's been a decent season for Damm - he's propelled himself into the top 100 for the first time, but regular tour-level wins are still a bit hard to come by.

Damm made the semi-finals of Montpellier at the start of the season, but he's only won four more matches in ATP main draws for the season.

The 22-year-old did earn a first Wimbledon main draw win before impressing in a three-set defeat to Ben Shelton in the first round of Washington to launch his summer.

Damm lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first round of Canada and went out in straight sets to World No. 157 Stefanos Sakellaridis in Cincinnati qualifying, so he doesn't arrive in Winston-Salem in great form.
