Race 7 - See You In Heaven (3rd): Making her stable debut for Matt Laurie after Yulong went to $1 million at the 2025 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale, See You In Heaven was sent out at a big price but caught the eye with a strong late finish.
Settling at the rear, she was the only runner to really make an impression from back in the field, working home powerfully to grab the attention of punters.
That run showed she’s adapted quickly to her new set-up and still has plenty to offer in top-line company.
She's versatile in regard to distance and See You In Heaven can be placed to advantage through the spring, particularly if dropping back into mares’ grade.
Race 8 - Damask Rose (5th): Damask Rose made her Australian debut at Caulfield and, while she didn’t have the early speed to muster over 1200m, she did enough late to suggest she’ll be a player deeper into the prep.
Forced to settle at the back, she was left chasing throughout and inevitably lacked the brilliance of the winner, Magic Time, a proven dual Group 1 mare, but it was a solid chasing effort and a performance.
Her last two victories in New Zealand came at 1500m and 1600m, including a scalp of the handy Evaporate in the most recent.
She looks far better suited once she gets to that distance range here. and her closing work indicates she has the class to make her presence felt through the spring.
Race 9 - Buckaroo (3rd): Buckaroo turned in a strong return performance when chasing home a potential star in Treasurethe Moment, and he looks set to build nicely as the races get longer.
The hit-out over 1400m was full of merit, and he should only furnish further once he gets back out in trip.
An obvious target could be the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m), a race he won last year before excellent runner-up finishes in both the Turnbull Stakes and the Caulfield Cup.
With that foundation, he again looms as a key player in Melbourne’s premier middle-distance and staying contests this spring.
