Doomben Roughie Tip
Doomben Roughie - Race 3 No. 12 Vos Savant
She's understandably a big price off a last start failure, however sharp improvement wouldn’t shock here with Vos Savant.
The mare didn’t handle a Soft 7 surface last time out and a drying track is in her favour on Saturday.
Vos Savant was also dropping in distance on March 14 off a freshen-up, which didn’t suit.
The mare hadn’t done a whole lot wrong prior to that, with only one other top four miss this season, and among her victories was a first-up triumph at Doomben when well supported.
Flemington Roughie Tip
Flemington Roughie - Race 9 No. 6 Corniche
Could be the blowout, with a strong effort at Cranbourne on stable debut for Shawn Mathrick.
The gelding ran the fastest last 400m and 200m of the meeting that day, highlighting his turn-of-foot.
While disappointing last start, a flying Jigsaw was dominant and that form has held up strongly through the Group 1 William Reid Stakes.
Wet ground brings him further into contention, with both wins coming on rain-affected tracks, and in an open penultimate, he’s worth a little each-way ticket.
Morphettville Roughie Tip
Morphettville Roughie - Race 9 No. 15 Silent Answer
There’s always been an opinion of Silent Answer, with the penny yet to drop for the Yulong filly.
All performances suggest that she will furnish once stepping up in trip, and she now gets to a mile third-up.
She was sound chasing fourth last start when at the rear in a leader-dominated race.
Mating Call is the one to beat here at around $5, but from a strong Phillip Stokes yard, who prepared the winner of this fillies feature last year, Silent Answer looks your knockout chance.
Rosehill Roughie Tip
Rosehill Roughie - Race 5 No. 4 Varjak
In at an each-way price for a James McDonald ride, which is rare, Varjak appeals in the Tulloch Stakes
The big son of Contributer recorded an eye-catching New Zealand debut win before joining the Ciaron Maher yard.
He appreciated the rise in trip last start with 60kg when attacking the line for third behind a quinella who both carried 4.5kg less.
That strength late suggests he will relish getting to 2000m.
