There are some interesting outsiders across Saturday’s five major metropolitan meetings, with several bigger-priced runners capable of beating market expectations.

For our leading selections on August 29, head to Saturday’s Best Bets.

Belmont Roughie Tip

Belmont Roughie - Race 5 No. 3 Later Alligator

There was money for Later Alligator at a double-figure quote when resuming at Northam on August 6, but the race shape gave him little chance from the rear.

The 1100m was on the sharp side and a tearaway leader had him chasing from too far out, with those closer to the speed holding the advantage.

Getting to 1300m second-up suits, while he remained competitive through a string of Westspeed races after his upset New Year's Day victory.

His poorer efforts have generally come on testing ground, so any upgrade from the current Soft 7 would help and he looks capable of improving at a big price.

Caulfield Roughie Tip

Caulfield Roughie - Race 5 No. 10 Gold Medallist

A strong tempo in the Courtza Stakes could set things up nicely for Gold Medallist, who resumes after moving well through the line in an August 11 Pakenham jump-out.

The Moody and Coleman-trained mare won all four starts of her first preparation, progressing quickly through the grades before completing the streak in metropolitan BM70 company.

Her only below-par effort came fresh at Sale in February, but she bounced back immediately and later added a Caulfield victory to her record.

Most of her autumn form came over further, but 1200m fresh should suit and she has the closing speed to make her presence felt late.

Eagle Farm Roughie Tip

Eagle Farm Roughie - Race 6 No. 12 Get Ready Lass

Excuses can be made for both runs from Get Ready Lass this preparation, beginning with a wide and tough first-up effort at the Sunshine Coast on July 4.

She was then below her best at Eagle Farm, never travelling comfortably from an awkward draw before fading after starting at a single-figure quote.

A lower barrier should help her settle closer this time, while her previous preparation produced a win and three seconds from five starts.

Two of those placings came over this track and trip, including behind subsequent Listed winner Earn To Burn, so she is capable of bouncing back at odds.

Morphettville Roughie Tip

Morphettville Roughie - Race 8 No. 12 Spangled Sipper

Fourth-up over 1800m looks the right setup for Spangled Sipper, who has improved with each run this preparation.

She closed from the rear over 1400m first-up before placing over the mile at Murray Bridge, then again finished her race off well at Morphettville last time.

That latest performance suggested the extra distance will suit, while her previous campaign included a placing over 1960m before stretching to 2150m.

This is a slightly easier assignment and, with a solid fitness base underneath her, she looks capable of running into the finish at a price.

Rosehill Roughie Tip

Rosehill Roughie - Race 10 No. 7 Lisztomania

A drop back in distance looks the key for Lisztomania after he was stretched beyond his best over 1400m third-up.

Before that, he landed the cash for us at a big price first-up at Eagle Farm and then had no luck when held up for much of the straight in the Listed Ramornie Handicap.

The short freshen-up should suit, while Kerrin McEvoy looks a good booking for a gelding who is best saved for one late run.

Firmer ground would also help and, although his racing pattern requires luck, Lisztomania remains dangerous when circumstances fall his way.
