Tancred Stakes 2026 Betting Tips - Can Aeliana Deliver on the Back-Up?
The 2026 Tancred Stakes at Rosehill is set to feature an exciting contest with Aeliana leading the betting market at $1.75. Aeliana, who recently regained form in the Ranvet Stakes, is aiming to repeat her dominant Australian Derby victory last year over 2400m. However, she faces stiff competition from Dubai Honour, an experienced globetrotter with a strong record in Australia, including a victory in this race last year. The Tancred Stakes is the second of two Group 1 races run at Rosehill on Saturday, March 28, with the $1.5 million feature highlighting the staying ranks as the autumn carnival rolls on.
The 2400m contest brings together a quality field of weight-for-age performers, alongside emerging stayers looking to peak at the right time.
For the 2026 Tancred Stakes, Aeliana heads the market, currently priced at $1.75 with Neds.
2026 Tancred Stakes Tips
The early money has come for Aeliana, who was a touch more workmanlike than what odds-on backers wanted in the Ranvet Stakes last Saturday.
To be fair, stablemate Lindermann controlled that race to suit, and importantly, the four-year-old did break a drought that stretched back to her dominant Australian Derby win last autumn over 2400m.
She now returns to that trip for the first time since, doing so on the quick backup with James McDonald staying aboard.
This is no gimme with genuine weight-for-age opposition, but she’s a fit and in-form runner who looks to have regained confidence.
The main danger is Dubai Honour, a globetrotter from the William Haggas yard with a strong Sydney record.
Dubai Honour has multiple Group 1 wins in Australia, including the Ranvet Stakes–Queen Elizabeth Stakes double in 2023, and he took out this race last year.
He’s now an eight-year-old with plenty of travel under his belt, but continues to hold form, handles all conditions, and remains unbeaten at Rosehill.
Vauban was well ridden to win the Sky High Stakes first-up, with Tim Clark overcoming a wide draw to land outside the lead.
He was able to stay in touch and work through a flat spot, which proved the difference late.
That mirrors his setup from last year when winning the same race, and he arguably should have won this, with Dubai Honour and Duke De Sessa both prominent in clear air and building momentum.
In contrast, he was off the speed and searching for runs at a key stage.
The market suggests the winner comes from those key chances, all proven weight-for-age performers.
Of the others, Soul Of Spain looks to be building nicely off his last start second and now gets to 2400m.
The rise in trip should also suit River Of Stars, Zarir and Valiant King, but they may just lack the class at this level, as does Piggyback, although the Maher-trained mare is racing well.
2026 Tancred Stakes Best Bet - Aeliana
Aeliana returns to 2400m, which is a major tick given how dominant she was over the trip in last year’s Australian Derby.
Her Ranvet Stakes win was more workmanlike than explosive, but she took another step in the right direction and importantly regained winning confidence.
On the quick backup, fit and back to her preferred trip, she’s the one to beat.
2026 Tancred Stakes Value Bet - Vauban
Vauban looks to be building nicely this preparation and was strong winning last start.
He now rises to 2400m, which looks ideal given the way he worked through the line, and his overall profile suggests he’s looking for this trip.
With improvement to come at the trip, he’s the pick of the each-way contenders in a race dominated by the key chances.
