The Toowoomba-based Cifrado (barrier 7) has won both of the traditional lead-up events to the Group 1 JJ Atkins, with the Rex Lipp-trained colt taking out both the Champage Classic and Sires' Produce Stakes.

It's been a consistent campaign for the son of Encryption, who broke his maiden at Ipswich in April and Damien Thornton has been aboard since the second-up placing via the Listed Dalrello Stakes.

Chris Waller secured the Sydney Triple Crown with Shinzo (Golden Slipper) and Militarize (Inglis Sires' and Champagne Stakes) making it three two-year-old Group 1 wins this year for the champion trainer.

He has a strong hand for the last two-year-old major of the season, preparing Chrysaor (barrier 15), Congregation (barrier 5) and Tannhauser (barirer 6) for this 1600m feature.

Waller is aiming for a fourth JJ Atkins victory, having tasted success in this Group 1 with Pressday (2010), Press Statement (2015) and The Autumn Sun (2018).

Peter & Paul Snowden prepared last year's JJ Atkins winner (Sheeza Belter) and both Snapback (barrier 10) and Make A Call (barirer 13) give them a strong chance of going back-to-back.

Three-time Group 1 winner Sharp 'N' Smart finished fourth as a beaten favourite in the 2022 JJ Atkins and Graeme & Deborah Rogerson are back with Solidify (barrier 4), who is another son of Redwood.

The New Zealand colt was unlucky when ninth of 18 on Australian debut via the Sires' Produce Stakes.

17 runners make up the final field for the 2023 JJ Atkins.
