The line opened higher and has come back, but 6.5 still looks short given the matchup. Newcastle rank fifth for points and fourth for linebreaks, while the Tigers sit 15th defensively for points allowed and 14th defending linebreaks.

The Newcastle Knights get Kalyn Ponga, Dylan Lucas and Jermaine McEwen back this week, which is a major boost after they still found a way to beat the Dragons without key Origin players. Fletcher Sharpe also stays in the starting side at five-eighth after scoring twice in the opening eight minutes last week.

The Wests Tigers beat Newcastle 42-22 back in Round 6, but that result needs context. Ponga and others were out, Newcastle had only 43% possession and they were still trying to settle into a new style of footy. This is a very different Knights team now.

Across their last five games, Newcastle are averaging 32.0 points scored and have won four of five. The Tigers have conceded 38.8 points per game across their last five, and both teams' games have averaged around 53 total points this season. That puts Over 51.5 firmly in play.

Take Newcastle -6.5 and Over 51.5. Fletcher Sharpe is the tryscorer angle after scoring 16 tries in 16 games at McDonald Jones Stadium, including two last week and tries in three of his last four.

Newcastle rank fifth for points and fourth for linebreaks.
Wests Tigers rank 15th for points defence and 14th defending linebreaks.
Newcastle have scored 32.0 points per game across their last five.
Fletcher Sharpe has scored 16 tries in 16 games at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Head to Head Stats

Wests Tigers have won the last two games against Newcastle, including the 42-22 result in Round 6. The Knights had won the three meetings before that, and the bigger story this week is the current form split and Newcastle's home-ground edge.

Knights Atk Rank	Tigers Def Rank	Stat	Tigers Atk Rank	Knights Def Rank
5	15	Points	11	11
10	10	Run Mts	9	11
4	14	Linebreaks	11	11
12	9	Compl %	6	6

Newcastle Knights Form Analysis

Newcastle have won four of their last five games and have averaged 32.0 points during that run. They are also 4-1 in their last five at McDonald Jones Stadium, which makes this a good setup for a cover.

Ponga returning changes the ceiling of the attack immediately, while Dylan Lucas adds another genuine strike option on an edge. Fletcher Sharpe shifting back to five-eighth gives Newcastle another ball-runner close to the line, and his home try-scoring record is too strong to ignore.

The team totals also suggest a bigger gap than the current handicap, with Newcastle sitting at 28.5 and Wests Tigers at 20.5. If the Knights get to that number, the cover and Over are both very live.

Wests Tigers Form Analysis

Wests Tigers competed well early against the Dolphins last week, but injuries again halted their momentum and their defence could not hold up. Across their last five games they have conceded 38.8 points per game and carry an average margin of -19.2.

Adam Doueihi returning at halfback is a positive and the Tigers have enough attack through Jahream Bula, Jarome Luai and Doueihi to help the Over, but trusting them to keep Newcastle under control for 80 minutes is a different story.
