Kokkinakis has endured a nightmare run of injuries throughout his career - it's crazy to think he has never been ranked higher than 65 in the world. After undergoing radical pectoral surgery last year, which involved inserting a donor Achilles tendon into the right side of his chest, Kokkinakis suffered another setback to start 2026, suffering a shoulder injury in Adelaide. The Aussie returned to action at the Zagreb Challenger earlier this month, coming through qualifying but withdrawing ahead of the main draw.

It appears as if that withdrawal was completely precautionary and Kokkinakis feels ready to test himself in the best-of-five format at Roland Garros. Kokkinakis loves a Grand Slam battle - he's seen Over 3.5 sets in 10 of his last 11 completed matches at the majors, while four of his last five French Open outings have gone the distance.

Atmane is one of those players that his too clever for his own good and can be guilty of over-thinking on the tennis court with his impressive 158 IQ. The Frenchman can thrown in some shocking performances - case in point, he's lost his last three matches vs players outside the top 500, but has also made a Masters 1000 semi-final. He's never won a match at Roland Garros and was crushed 6-0 in the fourth by a retiring Richard Gasquet last year.

I can't take Kokkinakis for the upset given the uncertainty around his fitness, but the Aussie has at least one good set in him for this clash.

It's usually either rocks or diamonds for Atmane, who is immensely talented but also prone to some error-ridden performances and long losing streaks.

Atmane made his big rankings climb after making the Cincinnati Masters semi-finals last year, while he also made the R16 of Miami and the third round in Madrid this season.

However, the 24-year-old has struggled outside Masters 1000 level and is also 0-4 in the first round of Grand Slam main draws. Atmane also finds it tough to consistently produce his best tennis week in and week out on tour.

The Frenchman lost in the second round of Rome to Flavio Cobolli and first round of Hamburg to Tomas Martin Etcheverry before arriving in Paris.

No form to analyse for Kokkinakis, who continues to be struck down by serious injuries that require surgery or long layoffs.

Kokkinakis ruptured his right pectoral at the start of last year and underwent serious surgery that could have ended his career.

Returning at the start of this year, Kokkinakis played some great tennis to upset Sebastian Korda in Adelaide, but he suffered a shoulder injury during the win that ultimately saw him miss the next five months of action.

The 30-year-old returned at the Zagreb Challenger earlier this month - Kokkinakis got two qualifying wins under his belt before withdrawing as a precaution, perhaps getting ready and saving his body for this Roland Garros campaign.
