The 2026 French Open has delivered a shock with Diana Shnaider and qualifier Maja Chwalinska clashing in an unpredictable semi-final. Shnaider mounted an extraordinary comeback to defeat World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, while Chwalinska became only the second qualifier in the Open Era to reach Roland Garros’ last four. With Chwalinska thriving as the underdog and frequent service breaks expected, she represents value in both head-to-head and prop bets (such as under 0.5 aces). The live match stream is available on Unibet, with geo-restrictions in place.

Diana Shnaider vs Maja Chwalinska Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

It's one of the most surprising Grand Slam semi-finals of all time as Diana Shnaider and Maja Chwalinska collide for a place in the French Open final on Thursday.

A Polish woman in the Roland Garros semi-finals certainly isn't surprising, but we all thought it would be four-time champion Iga Swiatek. Instead, Chwalinska has become just the second qualifier in the Open Era to reach the final four at the French Open. The 24-year-old is now just two wins away from emulating Emma Raducanu as the only player in history to win a major title after coming from qualifying.

Meanwhile, Shnaider has been a solid top 20 player for a couple of years now, but she arrived in Paris in arguably her worst form during that stretch. However, the 22-year-old has come from nowhere to make a maiden Grand Slam semi-final, staging a miraculous comeback from 3-6 1-4, 0-30 down to conquer World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, winning the final 10 games of the match and dropping a bagel on the top seed for good measure. It's the second straight match Shnaider has won a deciding set 6-0 after doing so in the R16 against Madison Keys.

This Roland Garros tournament has proven absolutely anything can happen, so why can't Chwalinska keep her fairytale run going into the final? I didn't back the Pole in her last two matches as she was the heavy favourite against Diane Parry and even money against Anna Kalinskaya, but she's back to being the underdog here, so I'm going to follow the value. Shnaider has a 2-5 record in her last seven semi-finals and might feel the nerves of being such a big favourite in her first major semi-final.

I also want to focus on some prop bets. We landed a Chwalinska Under 0.5 aces bet yesterday and I want to double down here - the Pole just doesn't have any firepower behind her serve, making up for it with some magical court craft, variety and wizardry from the baseline. That also leads me into Over 7.5 total breaks for the match - Chwalinska was broken five times alone by Kalinskaya despite winning the match and if this goes three, 8+ is almost a lock.
  • Chwalinska has served zero aces in 15 of her last 19 matches
  • Chwalinska saw 12 breaks of serve vs Kalinskaya
  • Shnaider has seen 11 & 9 service breaks in her last two matches
  • Shnaider has lost five of her last seven semi-final matches
  • Chwalinska has won 12 of her last 14 matches at all levels

Shnaider vs Chwalinska Head To Head

This will be the first tour-level meeting between the pair.

Diana Shnaider Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 18-11
  • French Open Record: 7-3
  • Current Ranking: No. 23
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 11 (2025)

Shnaider arrived in Paris with her last semi-final appearance coming all the way back in January at Adelaide.

The 22-year-old had dropped out of the top 20 after failing to win back-to-back matches in seven of her last eight tournaments.

How the tables have turned. Shnaider advanced into the second week with straight sets wins over Renata Zarazua, McCartney Kessler and Oleksandra Oliynykova before stepping it up for the big guns.

After subduing former Australian Open champion Madison Keys 6-3 3-6 6-0, Shnaider produced a stirring comeback against top seed Aryna Sabalenka, recovering from a 3-6, 1-4, 0-30 deficit, winning 12 of the last 13 games to take down the World No. 1 3-6 7-5 6-0. Shnaider also became just the fourth player since 1975 to win a deciding set 6-0 against a current No. 1 ranked player.

Maja Chwalinska Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 7-1
  • French Open Record: 5-0
  • Current Ranking: No. 114
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 113 (May 2026)

Absolutely insane run for Chwalinska.

She will rise from No. 114 in the world to No. 30 even if she loses in the semi-finals. Incredibly, if she doesn't receive a Wimbledon wildcard, she will have to play qualifying.

Not that it would bother her - Chwalinska has won eight matches from qualifying to become just the second qualifier in the Open Era to make the Roland Garros semi-finals.

The 24-year-old warmed up for Roland Garros by winning the WTA 125 title in Oeiras and then stunned Olympic champion Qinwen Zheng in straight sets in the opening round. Former major semi-finalists Maria Sakkari and Elise Mertens were also among Chwalinska's scalps before her 7-6 6-3 win over Kalinskaya in the quarter-finals.

Chwalinska held her nerve after blowing a 5-1 first set lead, closing out the tiebreak before maintaining her ascendency in the second, with her unorthodox game proving very effective in the windy conditions.

Verdict

Focusing on the ace & break props, while Chwalinska offers value as the underdog in a tournament full of upsets - mini SGM with zero aces from the Pole also appeals.
