Alex de Minaur meets Jakub Mensik in the French Open third round, aiming for only his second appearance in the tournament's second week. De Minaur, who has a 5-0 head-to-head lead and superior endurance, is favored, especially after Mensik endured a marathon five-set match in the previous round. While clay gives Mensik a slight advantage, De Minaur's movement and resilience should see him prevail. Fans can catch the match live via Unibet, with De Minaur tipped for victory unless Mensik delivers an upset.

Alex de Minaur vs Jakub Mensik Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Alex de Minaur targets the second week of the French Open for just the second time in his career when he comes up against Jakub Mensik in the third round on Friday.

De Minaur has improved his game considerably on clay throughout his career, but this year his struggles on the surface returned. The Aussie had a negative win-loss record on the surface until he decided to enter Hamburg to restore some confidence ahead of Roland Garros - and it proved a good move as he reached the semi-finals.

De Minaur has also benefitted from a great draw in the sweltering Parisian heat during the first week of this tournament - he's only had to beat qualifier and Grand Slam debutant Toby Samuel to make it to this stage, with Alexander Blockx withdrawing due to injury in the second round.

Meanwhile, Mensik was involved in an absolute war with Mariano Navone in his second round, prevailing in a fifth-set tiebreak in a match that lasted well over four hours. Mensik was cramping all over before match point and ultimately collapsed due to the ground, unable to move after converting.

There's got to be question marks over Mensik's fitness heading into this clash, especically because he hasn't been the most durable player in his short career. There's also the matter of De Minaur owning a dominant 5-0 record in this matchup - although this will be their first meeting on clay. This surface gives Mensik a better chance, but De Minaur's superior athleticism, movement, endurance and rally tolerance should see him emerge victorious.
  • De Minaur has won all five previous meetings between the pair
  • Mensik is 1-4 in Grand Slam third round matches
  • Mensik has a 9-10 record vs top 10 players - but only one of those wins has come at a slam
  • De Minaur has dropped 1+ set in eight of his nine previous slam matches vs players ranked between 11-30

De Minaur vs Mensik Head To Head

Alex de Minaur Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 19-10
  • French Open Record: 9-9
  • Current Ranking: No. 7
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 6 (2024)

De Minaur's season has been a mixed bag, but the Australian remains firmly entrenched among the game's elite, arriving at Roland Garros ranked No. 7 in the world, just one place shy of his career-high mark.

The 27-year-old enjoyed a strong opening to 2026, reaching the Australian Open quarter-finals and successfully defending his ATP 500 title in Rotterdam. However, consistency has been harder to find since February, with De Minaur posting a more modest record over the last few months.

There have still been encouraging signs on clay. De Minaur compiled a winning record during the European swing, highlighted by a quarter-final appearance in Monte Carlo and a semi-final run in Hamburg last week. Along the way, he scored impressive victories over Francisco Cerundolo, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Luciano Darderi before falling to Tommy Paul in a match he controlled for long periods after taking the opening set and securing an early break in the second.

Historically, Roland Garros has been his toughest Grand Slam. De Minaur exited in the first or second round in eight of his first nine appearances in Paris before breaking through with a quarter-final run in 2024. The Aussie is well-positioned to make the second week again, easing past qualifier Toby Samuel 6-4 6-4 6-2 before receiving a walkover from Alexander Blockx, who suffered a freak ankle injury in practice.

Jakub Mensik Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 20-9
  • French Open Record: 3-1
  • Current Ranking: No. 27
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 12 (March 2026)

It's been a solid season for Mensik, but his ranking took a big hit after he was unable to defend his Miami Masters title from last year in March.

The Czech enjoyed a blistering start to the season, winning the title in Auckland, reaching the fourth round at the Australian Open (before withdrawing injured) and beating World No. 1 Jannik Sinner on his way to the Doha semi-finals.

However, Mensik hasn't been able to produce that sort of form on clay. Prior to arriving in Paris, he only won back-to-back matches at one tournament on the surface, making the R16 in Madrid before going down to Alexander Zverev.

Mensik began his Roland Garros campaign with a straightforward 6-3 6-2 6-4 victory over wildcard Titouan Droguet, but was forced to dig deep in an epic five-set win against the in-form Mariano Navone in the second round, outlasting the Argentine 6-3 2-6 6-4 1-6 7-6(11) in one of the longest matches of the tournament, right in the middle of the day.

De Minaur owns this matchup & has the physical advantage - Mensik can take a set, but it's unlikely he survives another long match here.
