Two encouraging efforts from as many starts this preparation give Snobz claims of breaking through, beginning with a third over 900m at Murray Bridge on September 2 when beaten less than two lengths on a Soft 5.
The David Jolly and Justin Potter-trained gelding then switched to Good ground over this course and distance and finished fifth-of-14, beaten just over five-and-a-half lengths after working across from a wide barrier.
There was more merit in that performance than the margin suggests, with Snobz looking a strong chance to finish runner-up before losing several positions late, while the race has subsequently produced multiple next-start winners.
For the first time this preparation he draws an inside half of the field, which should allow Lauren Stojakovic to give him a considerably more economical run than at Balaklava last time.
A winning 600m Strathalbyn jump-out on September 29 has kept Snobz up to the mark between runs, and with that solid preparation behind him he looks capable of breaking through at value.
TQCSI Class One Handicap Tips (Race 4)

Four of Synthesise’s five starts last preparation came in black-type company, including a third in the Listed Clare Lindop Stakes when racing second-up at Morphettville in March.
The daughter of Toronado later tackled the Group 3 Auraria Stakes and Group 1 Australasian Oaks before ending that campaign with a solid fifth in the Group 3 Ken and Helen Smith SA Fillies Classic over 2546m in May.
A significant drop in both grade and distance greeted her at this track first-up on September 30, where she settled back before staying on well to finish second in a 1300m Class 1 handicap on Good ground.
That performance should provide a strong platform for the rise to 1600m, with Synthesise already possessing a Listed placing at the trip and holding a course record of a win and a second from two appearances.
Barrier one gives Todd Pannell every opportunity to secure an economical position for Matthew Seyers’ mare, and with the extra distance firmly in her favour she looks well placed to record a second Balaklava victory.
Coopers Brewery Benchmark 56 Handicap Tips (Race 7)
Balaklava Next Best Bet - Race 7 No. 12 Sundogg
Sundogg showed up well in his sole trial before returning to action last month, with that preparation helping him produce an encouraging first-up performance at Morphettville.
Despite beginning slowly, the six-year-old worked home strongly to finish runner-up over 1050m in BM0-64 company, finding only the front-running Fill A Promise too strong by a length and a half.
The form from that race has held up nicely, with the fourth winning his next two starts and the fifth also saluting at his following appearance.
Dropping back to BM56 company is a positive for the son of Palentino, while the booking of Todd Pannell catches the eye and Sundogg has previously raced well in defeat at Balaklava.
Barrier 10 is the slight query, but after being freshened since his Morphettville second and with the easier grade in his favour, John Hyam’s gelding looks capable of returning to the winner’s list.
