Via Sistina (barrier 1) pulled off a mini upset first-up in the Winx Stakes, where the Chris Waller-trained import saluted despite resuming over 1400m, a trip which is on the short side for the seven-year-old, who has recorded two wins and a second from three Australian starts.
The rise to 1600m will suit Via Sistina, who is aiming for her fourth Group 1 victory.
Mr Brightside (barrier 4) has been one of the premier milers in Australia over the last few years and the Hayes-trained galloper won the 2023 Makybe Diva Stakes as an odds-on favourite.
The seven-year-old was sound on resumption when runner-up in the Memsie Stakes and the Makybe Diva Stakes is a logical second-up option for the son of Bullbars.
Although Pride Of Jenni (barrier 7) disappointed on return in the Memsie Stakes, it's worth noting her lack of first-up form, however, her second-up stats make for much better reading (two wins and four placings from seven second-up attempts).
The Ciaron Maher-trained mare has also won her last three attempts at 1600m (all at Group 1 level) and the first two of those were recorded over the Flemington mile.
Trainer Mick Price is aiming for his fourth win in this feature and he teamed up with Michael Kent (Jnr) in that last those when I'm Thunderstruck saluted in the 2022 edition.
They prepare Warmonger (barrier 3), who kicks off his spring campaign following a dominant victory in the Queensland Derby on June 1.
Eight runners have accepted for the 2024 Makybe Diva Stakes, with this Group 1 headlining Saturday's feature card from Flemington.

Makybe Diva Stakes Winners
First ran in 1948 as The Craiglee Stakes, the Makybe Diva Stakes has a strong history on the Melbourne racing scene.
This event was first contested over 2000m before moving to the mile journey in 1965, the trip it is currently running at today, while the name change of the race occurred in 2007 to honour the three-time Melbourne Cup winning champion.
The race gained Group 1 status in 2013 and that year saw the Chris Waller-trained Foreteller upset short favourite Puissance de Lune to claim the prize.
Several high-quality runners have taken out this weight-for-age feature, including Light Fingers, Dulcify, Mahogany Northerly and Weekend Hussler.
Incentivise (2021), I'm Thunderstruck (2022) and Mr Brightside (2023) have won the last three editions of the Makybe Diva Stakes.
