With the top half of the draw blown wide open by Jannik Sinner's shock exit, there's a seismic opportunity for the players remaining to make a Grand Slam final - and Tiafoe and Arnaldi are right in the thick of it. Both players have endured some marathon encounters to reach the last 16, with the American surviving back-to-back five-setters over Hubert Hurkacz and Jaime Faria, while the Italian took out the dangerous Raphael Collignon in a final-set tiebreak.
Tiafoe has the experience at this stage of majors, but I'm liking Arnaldi in these conditions and on current, resurgent form following his recovery from a chronic foot problem that threatened to derail his career.

I can't see either winning this easily, so Over 38.5 total games appeals - especially when their only previous slam encounter went the distance. And as mentioned, I just like Arnaldi on European clay - he's been in amazing form, while Tiafoe was almost straight-setted by a qualifier in his previous round. The Italian's rally tolerance and ability to knuckle down in the grind gives him the very slight edge.

After a poor 2025, Tiafoe made some coaching changes and got himself back into shape, resulting in a much more consistent 2026 so far.

However, the Italian found some form in the weeks leading up to Roland Garros, winning the Cagliari Challenger before making the third round of Rome, where he landed a top 10 scalp over Alex de Minaur and pushing Rafael Jodar all the way in a tight three-setter.
The 25-year-old has continued his resurgent form in Paris, advancing to the R16 for the second time.
Arnaldi registered two very solid four-set victories over Tallon Griekspoor and former finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas before edging Raphael Collignon in a thrilling five-set marathon, prevailing in a final set tiebreak 6-4 6-7(5) 5-7 6-4 7-6(4).

Tiafoe has had a fairly easy draw and still struggled, while Arnaldi has taken out some in-form players and a former finalist - the Italian has the momentum and it feels like it's time for a first major quarter-final.
