Australia faces Poland in the 2026 Davis Cup World Group I tie at Brisbane’s Pat Rafter Arena on September 19–20. Australia, ranked No.8, is the favorite but will likely face a tough contest, especially in doubles with Purcell and Hijikata set to play a key role. Poland, without star Hubert Hurkacz, relies on Kamil Majchrzak, who already holds recent head-to-head success over De Minaur. The winner secures a spot in the 2027 Davis Cup Qualifiers. Top bets: Majchrzak to edge Duckworth in three sets and the Aussie duo to win the doubles.

Australia are backed to defeat Poland in this weekend's Davis Cup World Group 1 qualifier in Brisbane, but it could come down to a crucial doubles showdown, with Max Purcell returning to action alongside Rinky Hijikata, while Alex de Minaur should get the Aussies off to a winning start on Saturday.

Australia vs Poland Davis Cup Preview

Australia will look to keep their Davis Cup campaign alive when they face Poland in a crucial World Group I tie at Pat Rafter Arena in Brisbane this weekend. The two-day tie will be played on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20, with the winner advancing to the 2027 Davis Cup Qualifiers. Australia enter the contest ranked No.8 in the Davis Cup rankings, while Poland sit 29th.

Alex de Minaur will spearhead Lleyton Hewitt's Australian team, with James Duckworth, Adam Walton, Rinky Hijikata and Max Purcell completing the squad. De Minaur returns to Davis Cup action after a disappointing second-round exit at the US Open, while Duckworth comes into the tie following a strong period that included a semi-final appearance in Winston-Salem and a victory over Matteo Arnaldi at Flushing Meadows. Poland will be without former world No.6 Hubert Hurkacz as he manages his return from injury, leaving Kamil Majchrzak to lead the visitors' singles challenge.

The draw has produced an intriguing opening day, with world No.9 De Minaur taking on Poland's No.231 Maks Kasnikowski before Duckworth faces Majchrzak. Sunday's action is scheduled to begin with Hijikata and Purcell meeting Karol Drzewiecki and Jan Zielinski in the doubles, followed by the reverse singles. One of the standout potential matchups is De Minaur against Majchrzak, who defeated the Australian in three sets in the 's-Hertogenbosch final just three months ago.

Australia and Poland have met just once previously in the Davis Cup, with the Aussies recording a 4-1 victory in Warsaw in 2013. Hewitt was instrumental on that occasion, beating Lukasz Kubot in the opening rubber before Bernard Tomic won both of his singles matches to secure Australia's return to the World Group. Thirteen years later, Hewitt will be on the sidelines as captain as the two countries meet on Australian soil for the first time.

The format features two singles rubbers on Saturday followed by doubles and the reverse singles on Sunday, with play beginning at 1:00pm AEST on both days. Australia will be looking to take advantage of home conditions in Brisbane as they attempt to bounce back from their 3-1 Qualifiers defeat to Ecuador earlier this year and keep their hopes of reaching the 2027 Davis Cup Finals alive.

Australia vs Poland Davis Cup Best Bets

Kamil Majchrzak to beat James Duckworth 2-1 Set Betting @ $3.50

Unfortunately Duckworth can struggle with the pressure playing at home and representing Australia. He's gone 6-13 at the Australian Open, never advancing beyond the second round, while his only previous Davis Cup match was earlier this year, when he lost in three sets to World No. 257 Andres Andrade of Ecuador.

Majchrzak is having a solid year and as mentioned, beat de Minaur on grass a couple of months ago. The Pole also made the quarter-finals in Brisbane to start the season, so he enjoys these conditions. Majchrzak has won nine of his last 11 Davis Cup singles matches and offer some value in three sets here.

Rinky Hijikata/Max Purcell to beat Karol Drzewiecki/Jan Zielinski H2H @ $2.00

Plenty of doubles pedigree here and I love the Aussie team.

Purcell has made four Grand Slam doubles finals, winning Wimbledon in 2022 and the US Open in 2024, while Hijikata took home Australian Open doubles silverware in 2023 and was a finalist at Wimbledon last year.

The pair also teamed up to win the Japan Open in 2023. Purcell is back and looking fit after a recent suspension, while Hijikata has enjoyed one of his best years on tour in singles and that should translate over to the doubles arena here.

At home, the Aussies can dig this one out as slight underdogs.
