Queensland's premier metro racing this Saturday is at the Gold Coast, featuring 10 competitive races. Our top selections include Grand Impact (Race 7) as the 'To Win' best bet, promising Weownachevy (Race 2) as a rising 3YO, Canal (Race 4) with big upside stepping up in class, and Pocketmoney (Race 9) as a value each-way play. Conditions are improving, favouring fair racing, and strong form lines or in-form stables back our key picks. Expect a thrilling afternoon and strong chances for our highlighted runners.

Interestingly, Queensland hosts two metropolitan meetings on Saturday, September 19, but the premier card comes from the Gold Coast, where a strong 10-race program has been assembled.

The track is currently rated in the Soft 5 range, although with favourable weather forecast ahead of race day, an upgrade appears likely and should provide a fair surface across the afternoon.

Our Daily Racing Multi brings together leading selections from multiple programs.

Gold Coast Tips September 19

Kollosche QTIS 3YO Handicap Tips (Race 2)

Gold Coast Next Best Bet - Race 2 No. 4 Weownachevy

The penny looks to be starting to drop with Weownachevy, who was beaten as favourite on debut at Grafton in March before being given a break.

He still looked a little green when resuming at Eagle Farm on July 29, then endured a messy watch as an odds-on favourite at Doomben on August 26 after being tardy away, racing greenly and finding trouble in the straight.

There was still merit in that fifth placing, and the addition of senior rider Andrew Mallyon coincided with a sharp improvement at Ipswich last time when he relished the rise to 1350m and lengthened nicely late.

Mallyon stays aboard from barrier three, and that maiden win may prove the confidence booster he needed after showing ability without putting everything together in his first three starts.

He remains against his own age, steps to 1400m for the first time and looks a three-year-old still heading in the right direction.

Gold Coast Favourite - Race 4 No. 18 Canal

Canal was gelded ahead of his four-year-old season and has done plenty wrong in two runs back, but his ability has still been enough to carry him through both assignments.

The ex-Godolphin galloper justified a short quote at Port Macquarie on July 31 before stepping into Class 1 company at Beaumont Newcastle and producing another dominant performance.

There was plenty to like about that latest win as he came from back in the field and put more than two lengths on Nafanua, showing the sort of acceleration that suggests there is still a lot of upside.

Paul Snowden now sends him north for a tougher metropolitan-grade assignment, although he will need to become more professional if he is going to continue progressing through the grades.

Michael Rodd takes over from barrier 10, and while this is another step up, Canal has enough X-factor to justify the move if he can put things together more cleanly.

Gold Coast Best Bet - Race 7 No. 1 Grand Impact

Three consecutive runner-up finishes in Sydney have Grand Impact ready to head north for what looks his most suitable assignment of the preparation.

There was solid form around the first two of those efforts, while he was well beaten as an odds-on favourite last time despite again filling second place.

The winner there may have been underrated, and Grand Impact was also conceding plenty of weight, so the margin probably does not tell the full story.

He has been a little slow away at his past two starts, which is important because he is generally at his best when able to roll forward and dictate, but he looks the clear on-speed influence here if he can begin cleanly.

Anna Roper's 1.5kg claim helps from barrier two, while Soverato is one to respect if there is market support given the ability she showed during her three-year-old season despite some plain lead-up trials.

Gold Coast Value Bet - Race 9 No. 2 Pocketmoney

The Chris and Corey Munce stable has been a profitable one to follow at the Gold Coast over the past 12 months, and Pocketmoney is already among its winners at the circuit.

She won over this track-and-trip earlier in the winter before stepping into stronger Saturday company at the Sunshine Coast and narrowly missing in a BM85 over 1400m.

A plain run followed in a deeper Class 6 at Doomben, but she was given time after that and returned over 1200m at Eagle Farm on September 5 in a race that looked short of her best.

She travelled well enough around the speed before fitness appeared to give out late, and she should take plenty of improvement from that run with the rise back to 1400m looking far more suitable.

This is a race against her own sex without a great deal of depth, and from barrier one Benjamin Osmond should be able to have her prominent, with her last three tries at 1400m resulting in two wins and the aforementioned narrow second at the Sunshine Coast.
