She completed a winning hat-trick on the opening day of The Championships last Saturday and for the 2025 Sydney Cup, she drops 4.5kg from her Chairman's Quality triumph.
15 of the last 30 Sydney Cup winners have been produced from the Chairman's Quality (2600m), which includes Circle Of Fire, who completed the winning double last year.
The Waterhouse & Bott-trained mare has been consistent in both Ireland and Australia, with five wins and four seconds from 10 starts, while a fourth at start two was her only time out of the quinella.
Alalcance still needs to tick the 3200m box, although there's plenty of staying pedigree on her page and with an ideal platform, she gets her chance in what's a thin edition of the Sydney Cup.
2025 Sydney Cup Next Best Bet - Circle Of Fire
Ciaron Maher has prepared three of the last five Sydney Cup winners and the gun trainer has Circle Of Fire, who won last year's Sydney Cup despite covering ground in that event.
The five-year-old was building nicely ahead of his Chairman's Quality/Sydney Cup double in 2024 and after his Group 1 win, he was leading the futures market for the 2024 Melbourne Cup.
Circle Of Fire was going terribly in three spring performances ahead of the Melbourne Cup, but he saved his best for the two mile feature with a sixth-place finish at Flemington.
Without kicking the door down, the son of Almanzor has been ticking over fairly ahead his Sydney Cup defence and the last start WFA effort in the Tancred Stakes was a pass mark.
2025 Sydney Cup Value Bet - Strathtay
Strathtay was consistent over a long first campaign for Chris Waller, which culminated in two stakes placings over 2400m before a sixth-place finish in the Group 1 Metropolitan.
While he hasn't saluted in four outings this time in, Strathtay has worked home well in his last three attempts and he was strongest through the line behind Alalcance in the Chairman's Quality.
He recorded the fastest last 200m of that key form race and he was also an eye-catcher prior to that when third in the Manion Cup (fastest last 800m/600m/400m and 200m of the race).
Jay Ford combined with Chris Waller to win the 2019 Sydney Cup with Sharaaoh and in the last 10 years, only one horse has carried more than 52.5kg to win this race (Strathtay has 50kg).
