2025 Australian Oaks Best Bet - Treasurethe Moment
The Matt Laurie-trained galloper is aiming to become the 16th filly to complete a VRC Oaks/Australian Oaks double, with Serenade Rose the last to complete this back in 2005/2006.
While she may be more dynamic in the 1600m-2000m range, especially going when looking ahead to next season, her first Group 1 victory was recorded over 2500m in the VRC Oaks.
With her first clockwise run completed in the Vinery Stud Stakes, there still could be improvement to come with Treasurethe Moment, who also ticked the wet track box last start.
She's been bombproof over this winning streak, as Treasurethe Moment is able to land on the speed and sprint off any tempo, while the 2000m third-up run should top her off nicely.
2025 Australian Oaks Next Best Bet - Verona Rose
She won her first three starts and then behind Treasurethe Moment, the daughter of Castelvecchio was the pick of the chasers in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes.
We're seeing the Castelvecchio progeny come into their own as the distances increase and that was on display last Saturday via Aeliana's impressive victory in the Australian Derby.
Verona Rose is by Castelvecchio and out of a Mafki mare (Makfi produced two Australian Oaks winners), while she's also from the same family as Manighar (three-time Group 1 winning stayer).
It would be a strong each-way play if Treasurethe Moment wasn't around, but there's still enough juice there to entertain Verona Rose as a genuine top two/three contender.
2025 Australian Oaks Value Bet - Miss Alexis
Miss Alexis is coming of the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes, which produced last year's Australian Oaks winner (Autumn Angel) and not much went her way via that recent 2000m lead-up.
The Ciaron Maher-trained filly was set a big task in last Saturday's attempt where she settled back early and after finding some trouble early in the run home, Miss Alexis let down nicely.
She was never threatening Belle Detelle and You Wahng, who are both much shorter in the Australian Oaks market, however, it was certainly a pass mark with this longer trip in mind.
This daughter of Dundeel is the third foal out of Jameka, who won the 2015 VRC Oaks before recording major triumphs in her four-year-old season when taking out Caulfield Cup and Tancred Stakes.
