The Memsie Stakes is the first Melbourne Group 1 of the new season, a 1400m standard WFA feature run at Caulfield that's worth $750,000.
While he's been targeted towards the 1200m of The Everest later this spring, I Wish I Win (barrier 1) is set to resume in the Memsie Stakes, with this year's TJ Smith Stakes winner a chance of heading to the $20 million Randwick feature on October 14 straight from this Group 1.
I Wish I Win was an impressive Australian debut winner over this track/trip at this meeting last year, with the son of Savabeel rounding out that prep with victory in the Golden Eagle.
Mr Brightside (barrier 15) defended his PB Lawrence Stakes crown stylishly a fortnight ago, with the two-time Group 1 winner now unbeaten from two attempts over the Caulfield seven furlongs.
He rounded out his autumn campaign in fine fashion, with victory in the All-Star Mile at Moonee Valley before making it back-to-back Doncaster Mile triumphs on the opening day of The Championships as Randwick.
Alligator Blood (barrier 14) recorded a fifth Group 1 victory when winning the Futurity Stakes first-up in autumn, which is also a 1400m Group 1 weight-for-age event.
The Waterhouse & Bott-trained gelding completed only three runs in a short autumn campaign, while the seven-year-old was the comeback story of 2022, having won three Group 1's in that calendar year following setbacks and two stable changes.
Annavisto (barrier 4) has a terrific fresh record, with the daughter of Reliable Man having won four of six first-up attempts and the last two have come over this 1400m journey.
She has been well held via her last two tries at Group 1 level, however.
Chris Waller has a decent hand, with Osipenko (barrier 2) and Princess Grace (barrier 3) both arriving off strong returns in the Group 1 Winx Stakes on August 19.
A total of 15 runners make up the final field for the 2023 Memsie Stakes.
