Best Bet


Race 1 No. 6 Autafinna

A promising debut effort suggests Autafinna won't be a maiden for much longer.

The gelding made his first appearance of the year when finishing fourth in a Wyong trial last month before debuting with a runner-up finish here over 1600m in a Class 1 & Maiden Plate.

Beaten just half a length on that occasion, the son of The Autumn Sun found only a more experienced rival too strong after staying on well to the line.

The step up in distance looks a positive, while barrier two should allow him to enjoy an economical run throughout.

Mikayla Weir, who partnered him on debut, retains the ride and her mount looks capable of going one better at the second attempt.

Value Bet


Race 7 No. 4 Brazen Brando

Consistency has been a hallmark of Brazen Brando's current campaign, with the veteran continuing to race well on wet tracks.

A dual winner this preparation, the nine-year-old has finished in the first five in all seven starts since finishing down the track at this venue in January, with all but one of those efforts coming on rain-affected ground.

His latest runner-up effort came over 1004m at Port Macquarie earlier this month, where he was beaten just over a length in a Benchmark 50 contest.

The gelding has also proven competitive in stronger company this campaign, including a runner-up finish in a Benchmark 66 at the same venue in February.

A wide draw is the obvious challenge, but Brett Lazzarini's representative arrives in excellent form and looks capable of overcoming it at value odds.

Race 4 No. 4 Airburst

Paul Snowden's representative has produced two encouraging performances in maiden company this preparation.

The youngster arrives on the back of a runner-up finish at Port Macquarie and has attracted solid support in betting.

The Zoustar filly was available at better than $3.20 before firming into $2.70 with Unibet Australia after opening at $3.10.

The mother-and-daughter combination of trainer Karen Owen and jockey Madeline Owen boasts a 25% strike-rate (4/16) when combining at this venue this season.

The stable has two runners engaged in Race 5, with Madeline booked to ride Seething Chuck.

The selection had finished runner-up in three consecutive starts before recording a sixth under Liberty Smyth at Port Macquarie earlier this month.

The Casino Prince gelding reunites with Madeline here, and despite a wide barrier, the pair have plenty in their favour.
