Moe Tips July 21

Ladbrokes Mega Multi Maiden Plate Tips (Race 3)

Moe Next Best Bet - Race 3 No. 11 Delavega

Two encouraging Cranbourne jump-outs since joining his current stable suggest Delavega is close to making an impact.

Fourth in a Cranbourne jump-out last month, the gelding followed up with a promising debut effort when finishing third over 1000m at Pakenham two weeks later.

Competing over 1000m, he was beaten three lengths after jumping from barrier three on the synthetic track before racing on speed throughout.

Barrier eight is not expected to pose too many issues, and the son of Lucky Vega is expected to have improved for that race, while his breeding offers hope that he will handle the Heavy ground.

The Mick Price & Michael Kent Jr stable boasts a 50% strike-rate (6/12) with runners at this venue this season, and with Jye McNeil taking the ride, their representative is selected to break his maiden.

Moe Best Bet - Race 4 No. 7 Ngongotaha

Testing conditions should suit Ngongotaha, with all four of his previous race appearances coming on Heavy tracks.

Two of those starts have been at this venue, including a runner-up finish here earlier this month over this distance on his first attempt at the trip.

After settling off the pace, he raced wide before taking over in the straight, eventually going down by two lengths in a race where the first two finished more than five lengths clear of third.

Rachael Cunningham's representative has also shown versatility by placing third when racing prominently at Bairnsdale on his second career start.

Jason Maskiell knows the gelding well, and from barrier five, his mount looks capable of breaking through for a deserved maiden victory.

Moe Favourite - Race 6 No. 1 Silver Pledge

A narrow second at Wangaratta last month signalled Silver Pledge's return to form after an encouraging first-up effort.

Racing on Heavy ground for the first time, the gelding was beaten only narrowly after resuming over an unsuitable 1600m at Bendigo at the end of May.

He produced an eye-catching finish despite being ridden patiently and encountering trouble in running, with the fifth horse home going on to win twice since, including at metropolitan level.

Patrick Payne's representative has since been freshened and is proven at a higher grade, having won in metro company last season.

Both previous victories have come over 2400m, making the rise in distance another positive, and the New Zealand-bred is selected to make a winning debut at Moe.

Moe Value Bet - Race 7 No. 7 Lake Gillear

Previous course form gives Lake Gillear a strong appeal, having recorded a win and a second from three starts at Moe.

That runner-up effort came despite a wide barrier on his penultimate start before he finished fifth in a similar contest here at the end of May.

Competing on Heavy ground that day, the three-year-old was beaten five lengths in a race that has already produced subsequent winners from both the fourth and seventh placegetters.

The Pat Carey & Harris Walker-trained gelding has since been freshened and tuned up with a third in a Mornington jump-out just under two weeks ago.

Drawn in barrier six, the three-year-old looks well placed to record his second victory at the track.
