Queensland Lions face Perth Glory in the Australia Cup Round of 32, with revenge on their minds after a tense 2015 extra-time defeat. The Lions have been in remarkable form, topping the NPL Queensland and scoring freely, with striker Alex Fiechtner netting 34 goals this season. In contrast, Perth Glory have struggled in the A-League, finishing 10th and recording just eight wins in 26 games. With momentum and home advantage, the Lions are tipped to potentially force extra-time or even produce a Cupset against the Glory.

Queensland Lions vs Perth Glory Australia Cup Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Queensland Lions will have revenge on their mind when they face Perth Glory in the Australia Cup Round of 32 on Tuesday night at Spencer Park.

The Lions pushed Glory all the way in the only previous meeting between the teams in the 2015 Australia Cup before going down in extra-time with just two minutes remaining. The Lions missed a penalty in the first half and Perth went on to reach the final that year, one of two times they've reached the trophy match.

Glory endured another disappointing A-League season and this looks like a possible 'Cupset' in the making.

The Lions are flying high at the top of the NPL Queensland table, scoring a whopping 50 goals in just 19 games, with star striker Alex Fiechtner bagging 31 of those. He will be hoping for a big performance and to perhaps get on the radar of some A-League clubs before the beginning of the season.

I think Perth could be there for the taking. As mentioned, they had another poor A-League season, finishing 10th, while this will be their first competitive game since April, so they might be a little rusty.

The Lions are on fire with nine wins from their last 10 games and have home ground advantage - I'll take them to at least force extra-time, with a smaller stake on the upset win.
  • Lions have won nine of their last 10 games
  • Lions have scored 50 goals in 19 games in NPL Queensland this season
  • Glory finished in 10th spot on the A-League ladder last season, winning just eight of 26 games
  • Lions are unbeaten in 16 of their 19 NPL Queensland games this season

Queensland Lions vs Perth Glory Head To Head

Glory won the only previous meeting between the sides in the 2015 Australia Cup Round of 16, with Chris Harold scoring in the 118th minute for a 1-0 win after extra-time. The Lions missed a penalty in the opening half.

Queensland Lions Form Analysis

The Lions are back looking for a little run in the Australia Cup, with their best results coming when they reached the R16 in 2015, 2018 and 2024.

It's been a brilliant season in NPL Queensland for the Lions - they've won nine of their last 10 games and are currently leading Peninsula Power at the top of the table by one point.

The Lions have won 14 of their 19 games, including a most-recent 1-0 victory over Gold Coast this past weekend.

Queensland Lions Team News

As mentioned, Alex Fiechtner is the main man for the Lions, scoring a total of 34 goals this season.

Former Wellington Phoenix and Newcastle Jets midfielder Matthew Ridenton also features for the Lions.

Perth Glory Form Analysis

It was another poor season in the A-League for Perth - they finished in 10th spot, although they ended the campaign in encouraging fashion, going unbeaten in their last five games.

Glory beat Brisbane and Macarthur during that little period, but their season was already over and they failed to capitalise on an initial bright start under manager Adam Griffiths.

Ultimately, Glory only won eight of their 26 games and it will take a big effort for the men in purple to return to the finals.

In the meantime, Perth will be targeting another deep Australia Cup run after runner-up showings in 2014 and 2015. Glory were bundled out in the R32 last year on penalties by Wellington.

Perth Glory Team News

Glory have signed a few players already this off-season, including Calem Nieuwenhof, Lucas Scicluna, Henry Hore and Lachlan Jackson.

Veteran strikers Adam Taggart and Tom Lawrence each scored five goals last season and should lead the line up front. Nicholas Pennington also scored five goals, but has departed the club.
