Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory, both two-time Australia Cup winners, face off in a semi-final that promises to be tightly contested. Recent head-to-head history is even, and both teams boast quality attackers and solid cup form. Despite Sydney's home advantage, betting value appears to favor Melbourne Victory in the Double Chance market. The most likely outcome is a close game with both teams scoring, setting up the winner as a strong favorite in the final. Key players and team news could make the difference.

Sydney FC vs Melbourne Victory Australia Cup Tips & Prediction
This Australia Cup semi-final shapes as a 50-50 contest, so the value is with Melbourne Victory in the Double Chance market against Sydney FC, with both teams also tipped to score in Wednesday night's showdown at Jubilee Stadium.
Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory are both two-time Australia Cup champions and the winner of this will start as the overwhelming favourites in the final, with either South Melbourne or Lions FC squaring off in the other semi-final.
These two sides can't be split in my eyes. The last 10 meetings have seen both teams win four apiece, alongside two draws. It's still relatively early in the preseason too, with the A-League not starting until October 16.
Which makes Victory appeal in the Double Chance market at $1.80, meaning we have two bites at the cherry with a Victory win or draw.
I also like both teams to find the back of the net. Sydney are equipped with various exciting attacking talents, including Akol Akon, Thiago Quintal and Mathias Macallister, while Victory also have dangerous players in the final third such as Charles Nduka, Clarismario and quarter-final match winner Harry Sawyer.
Sydney FC vs Melbourne Victory Stats & Trends

- Victory have seen BTTS land in 10 of their last 15 games

- Sydney have only won five of their last 15 games inside 90 mins
Sydney FC vs Melbourne Victory Head To Head
These teams have already met three times in 2026. Victory dominated in a 4-0 win on Australia Day before a 2-2 draw in March. Sydney then knocked Victory out of the finals series with a 1-0 triumph, with Patrick Wood's 80th minute strike proving the difference.
Sydney FC Form Analysis
Sydney began their Australia Cup campaign in emphatic fashion, cruising to a 5-1 victory over Bayswater City in the Round of 32. Teenage talent Akol Akon starred with three assists, Thiago Quintal produced a superb hat-trick, while Mathias Macallister and Zachary De Jesus also found the back of the net.
The Sky Blues also impressed in a high-profile friendly against Tottenham Hotspur, earning a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes. New Japanese signing Takahiro Sekine made an immediate impression on his unofficial debut, coming off the bench to score the equaliser.
Sydney carried that momentum into the Round of 16, producing an impressive 4-2 victory over Brisbane Roar. Sekine and Quintal were both on the scoresheet again, while Ben Garuccio contributed a goal and an assist before Gabriel Popovic sealed the result in stoppage time.
Patrick Kisnorbo's side had a tougher time of it in the quarter-finals, edging out NPL NSW side SD Raiders 1-0. Sekine was on target for the third time this preseason, firing off a brilliant finish after some good lead-up work from Joe Lacey.
Sydney FC Team News
New Nigerian striker Oriola Sunday could be set for his Sydney FC debut after joining in the preseason.
Teenage fullback James Overy has also arrived from Man United and might be set to feature off the bench.
Rising star Akol Akon returned off the bench from a calf injury against the Raiders and should be set to start this one.
Possible Sydney FC Starting XI: Gus Hoefsloot, Rhyan Grant, Alexandar Popovic, Jordan Courtney-Perkins, Ben Garuccio, Rhys Youlley, Joe Lacey, Akol Akon, Tiago Quintal, Takahiro Sekine, Mathias Macallister
Melbourne Victory Form Analysis
New head coach Giovanni Savarese made a winning start to life at Victory, overseeing a comfortable 4-0 victory over Kingsborough Lions in the Round of 32.
Philipp Ziereis, Matthew Grimaldi, Clarismario Santos and Keegan Jelacic all found the back of the net as Victory cruised into the Round of 16 with an emphatic performance.
Victory were made to work much harder in the next round, eventually overcoming Western Sydney Wanderers on penalties. Harry Sawyer scored during extra time before converting again in the shootout, with the Wanderers missing their final three spot-kicks to send Victory through to the quarter-finals.
Extra-time was needed once again for Victory in their quarter-final clash with a stubborn APIA Leichhardt. Sawyer was on hand was again for the winning goal after some brilliant lead-up play from Keegan Jelacic.
Melbourne Victory Team News
Nishan Velupillay has departed for German 3 Liga club FC Ingolstadt 04.
Still no word on whether Spanish superstar Juan Mata will play another season, but he's still on the books.
Verdict
Victory are backed in the Double Chance market, with both teams also tipped to score.
