Light Infantry (barrier 8) has been a popular in the early Golden Eagle markets, a Group 3 winning import who arrives off back-to-back Group 1 placings in France.

Currently under the care of Ciaron Maher & David Eustace before another European campaign next year, the early favourite is yet to have a start in Australia.

Chris Waller took out the first running of The Golden Eagle with Kolding (2019) and the master trainer prepares Hinged (barrier 20), Fangirl (barrier 21) and Welwal (barrier 9) for the 2022 edition, with Frankie Dettori to ride the latter.

Peter Moody also has three runners, with I Wish I Win (barrier 14), Lightsaber (barrier 15) and Chain Of Lightning (barrier 2) in the final field.

Godolphin won a wet Golden Eagle in 2021 with Colette and have dual representation this year via Brigantine (barrier 7) and Vilana (barrier 24), who won the Silver Eagle lead-up.

20 runners (plus four emergencies) make up the final field for The Golden Eagle in 2022.

The Golden Eagle Winners

The Golden Eagle is one of Australia's newest races, a restricted race for four-year-old's under set-weight conditions.

Originally a $7.5 million dollar race, The Golden Eagle has received two prizemoney increases in the last 12 months, with an $8 million dollar announcement last November soon trumped by the $10 million total delivered in June.

Contested over a distance of 1500 metres at Rosehill Racecourse, this feature is the world's fourth richest race on turf.

Kolding (2019), Colette (2020) and I'm Thunderstruck (2021) have won the only three editions of The Golden Eagle.
