Kyneton Betting Tips for October 8, 2026 - Habitual Finding His Rhythm

Several lightly raced runners resume with upside, while a number of more exposed gallopers return in suitable company as the country racing week continues.

Laurel River @ Woodside Park F&M Maiden Tips (Race 5)
Kyneton Best Bet - Race 5 No. 11 Caddington
There was good money at long odds for Caddington on debut at Sandown on May 23 and, although those bets were not landed, the Liam Howley-trained filly produced an encouraging fourth-of-13 finish in Saturday metropolitan company.
She put a three-length margin on fifth-placed Forbidden Desire, while the Sandown form has subsequently stood up strongly through runner-up Stars Of Dom, who later won at Flemington, and Semantics, who kicked off her second preparation with an all-the-way Bendigo victory last Sunday.
Howley spelled Caddington after that first race-day appearance and she returns on her home circuit with a solid grounding through a jump-out and two trials.
The clear pick of those pieces of work came in her October 1 Caulfield Heath trial, where she won over 1000m while being held together as those around her were pushed out.
From a good draw she looks an obvious first-up chance in a country maiden, while Woah Shamrock is also worth including in exotics or as a saver at a big price after showing ability at the jump-outs and being given plenty of time by connections, having been in and out of work last season.

Kyneton Next Best Bet - Race 8 No. 8 Habitual
Following an even return over 1200m at Seymour on August 7, Habitual relished the rise to a mile second-up at Warracknabeal on August 29 and justified favouritism with a dominant five-length maiden victory.
That form has held up nicely through runner-up Koyuga Rip, who won at Bendigo at his following appearance before finishing runner-up in a handy BM66 at the same circuit on October 4.
The double was not completed at Swan Hill on September 22, but there were excuses after the son of Foxwedge lost ground at the start from a wide draw and was forced back to the rear before producing a strong fourth-of-13 finish.
That effort had particular merit given Habitual recorded the fastest last 200m of the race and the third-fastest last 200m of the entire program, suggesting the run was much better than the bare result.
Linda Meech returns aboard fourth-up on Thursday and, with a little less depth here and the rise in distance looking suitable, she may be able to use his improved fitness to take a more positive position, while Brutalrule remains the main danger after a two-length maiden win followed by a brave Warrnambool second.

Kyneton Value Bet - Race 9 No. 4 Blue Moon Summit
Experienced jockey Brad Rawiller knows these Victorian country circuits extremely well and has been profitable to follow at Kyneton over the past 12 months, with four winners at a strike rate of 28.6% and an ROI just shy of 46%.
Rawiller was aboard Blue Moon Summit when the gelding trialled strongly over 850m at Tatura on September 30, opening up a one-length margin over Tallingas Indirose, who was city placed behind a smart one in April.
The son of Blue Point is looking to bounce back from a disappointing three-run autumn campaign but remains lightly raced for a five-year-old, with only eight starts to his name.
His career highlight came on stable debut for Matt Ivill at Tatura last September when he bolted in with a 1000m maiden, while his latest trial suggests he has returned in much better order after a spell and a big price is available first-up for the risk.
From barrier two under Brad Rawiller, Blue Moon Summit should get every opportunity to use his tactical speed and race prominently, which is often a big tick at Kyneton.
