Arthur Fery vs Marin Cilic ATP Shanghai Tips, Prediction & Live Stream - Fery targets second Masters 1000 win

Arthur Fery faces Marin Cilic in the opening round of the ATP Shanghai Masters, with Fery tipped as the favourite against the seasoned but struggling Cilic. Fery, fresh off impressive runs at Wimbledon and Winston-Salem, has momentum and youth on his side. Despite Cilic’s ability to claim early sets, his recent form suggests he fades physically as matches progress. The key recommendation is to back Fery for the win while also considering over 22.5 total games and betting on either player losing the first set and winning the match.

Arthur Fery vs Marin Cilic ATP Shanghai Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Arthur Fery is backed to edge out 38-year-old Marin Cilic in the Shanghai Masters first round on Wednesday night, with a value option on either player to lose the first set and win the match.

Interesting opening round matchup in Shanghai.

Fery is still relatively inexperienced at this level and is competing in only his third Masters 1000 tournament, while Cilic is launching his Asian swing having lost five of his last six matches.

After making the Wimbledon semi-finals and Winston-Salem final, Fery really should be winning this.

But Cilic is still showing glimpses of his best tennis in the twilight of his career - he's beaten the likes of Brandon Nakashima and Learner Tien this year, along with taking sets off Daniil Medvedev and Frances Tiafoe.

There's a small pattern that I want to focus on here with Cilic - he's won the first set in his last two matches against Tiafoe and Daniel Merida before falling away dramatically, ultimately losing 5-7 6-2 6-2 and 3-6 6-1 6-1 respectively.

It's clear Cilic still has the talent to trouble players at this level, but his body seems to be letting him down as the match goes on.

So I'm taking Over 22.5 total games as the main play and either player to lose the first set and win the match at value - this covers another strong start and subsequent fade from Cilic.

Fery vs Cilic Head To Head

  • Fery has seen Over 22.5 games in four of his last five matches in best-of-three vs top 100 players
  • Cilic has seen Over 22.5 games in his last two matches
  • Cilic has won the first set but lost the match in his last two outings

Arthur Fery Form Analysis

  • 2026 ATP Record: 15-9
  • ATP Shanghai Record: 0-0
  • Current Ranking: No. 37
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 33 (August 2026)

It's been a fantastic breakout season for Fery.

The Brit was playing just the ninth tour-level event of his career when he made the Wimbledon semi-finals and he backed it up with a run to his maiden ATP final in Winston-Salem not long after.

Fery copped a tough first round draw at the US Open as he went down to Lorenzo Musetti, while he couldn't get his Asian swing off to a winning start, falling in three sets to Jaime Faria in Tokyo last week.

The 24-year-old has broken into the world's top 40 and will be searching for just his second Masters win here.

Marin Cilic Form Analysis

  • 2026 ATP Record: 14-15
  • ATP Shanghai Record: 9-12
  • Current Ranking: No. 80
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 3 (2018)

Obviously Cilic is in the twilight of his career, but he's still doing a good job of maintaining a top 100 ranking.

In fact, this is the most matches (14) Cilic has won on tour since the 2022 season.

The 38-year-old had a nice start to the season, reaching the third round of the Australian Open and Miami, along with a semi-final run at the ATP 500 event in Dallas.

However, Cilic has only won six matches after Miami and he comes into this clash having lost five of his last six.

Cilic made the semi-finals of Shanghai, but has lost his opening match of this tournament eight times.

Verdict

Fery should be winning this, but Cilic is capable of taking the opening set before physically fading.
