Qinwen Zheng faces Alina Charaeva in the WTA Beijing R16, with Zheng returning to form after injury and winning 10 of her last 12 matches. Known for her three-set battles, Zheng is favored to win but not without resistance from Charaeva, who enters her first WTA 1000 R16 after defeating World No. 1 Elena Rybakina. Recommended bet: Over 18.5 games, with the expectation that Zheng's tendency for long matches continues. This key matchup is available via live stream for fans worldwide.

Qinwen Zheng vs Alina Charaeva WTA Beijing Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Over half of Qinwen Zheng's wins on the WTA Tour in 2026 have come in three sets and the home favourite is backed to advance into the China Open quarter-finals when she faces Alina Charaeva on Wednesday night.

After battling injury problems over the better part of the last 12 months, Zheng is back playing some of her best tennis, winning 10 of her last 12 matches at all levels and backing up her run to the US Open quarter-finals from qualifying here at her home tournament.

It's been a tough road to the R16 - Zheng has been taken to a deciding set in all three of her matches, along with a tiebreak in the first set.

In fact, 13 of Zheng's 21 victories this season at tour-level have gone three sets, so there's a clear, sustained pattern emerging from her matches.

Meanwhile, Charaeva is featuring in the R16 of a WTA 1000 event for the very first time, backing up her stunning upset of World No. 1 Elena Rybakina in the second round by easing past Sonay Kartal for the loss of just five games.

I think Charaeva can make this match competitive and at least push it Over 18.5 games for our main play, while Zheng's tendency to go three sets also offers us a value play.
  • Zheng has won 10 of her last 12 matches at all levels
  • Zheng's last nine wins have seen Over 18.5 games
  • Zheng has won 13 of her 21 matches at tour-level this season in a deciding set
  • Zheng has won 26 of her last 28 matches vs players ranked 100+
  • Charaeva had never beaten a top 60 player at tour-level before this tournament

Zheng vs Charaeva Head To Head

This will be the first meeting at tour-level between the pair.

Qinwen Zheng Form Analysis

  • 2026 WTA Record: 21-13
  • WTA Beijing Record: 8-3
  • Current Ranking: No. 54
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 4 (2025)

It's taken a while after undergoing elbow surgery, but Zheng is back playing the sort of tennis that saw her make the Australian Open final and hit a career-high ranking of No. 4 last year.

Zheng comes into this match having won 10 of her last 12 matches at all levels, including qualifying for the US Open and beating the likes of Madison Keys and Iga Swiatek before falling in three sets to eventual champion Rybakina.

The 23-year-old made the semi-finals of Beijing in 2024 and she will be hoping for another deep run here after winning her opening three matches in a deciding set, edging out Han Shi (7-6(6) 4-6 6-2), Anna Kalinskaya (6-7(4) 6-4 3-0 RET) and Marie Bouzkova (7-6(3) 4-6 7-5).

Zheng has spent eight hours on court across those three matches and has fired down the most aces out of any player left in the tournament (26).

Alina Charaeva Form Analysis

  • 2026 WTA Record: 9-7
  • WTA Beijing Record: 3-0
  • Current Ranking: No. 118
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 108 (Aug 2026)

Charaeva had to be patient to earn her first tour-level wins, but now they're coming at a rapid rate.

Indeed, the 24-year-old won her first tour-level main draw match in July of this year and she's now a strong chance to break into the top 100 courtesy of her breakout run in Beijing this tournament.

The Armenian made the quarter-finals of Sao Paulo and the second round of Seoul before arriving at the China Open, where she edged out Yuliia Starodubtseva 5-7 7-5 6-2 in the first round.

Charaeva then made headlines with a brilliant 3-6 6-4 6-3 victory over World No. 1 and US Open champion Rybakina - her first win over a top 30 player. She then backed it up with a dominant 6-4 6-1 win over Sonay Kartal, who somewhat gifted her the match with 50+ unforced errors in two sets.
