Star Godolphin four-year-old Anamoe (barrier 3) is aiming for an eighth Group 1 victory in the 2023 Chipping Norton Stakes and he's drawn well for this second-up attempt.

In a campaign (and career) that's likely to culminate in a European tilt mid-year, the son of Street Boss started 2023 with a bang, proving too classy on return in the Apollo Stakes and does face similar opposition here.

Chris Waller has accepted with three runners, which include Fangirl (barrier 1) and Hinged (barrier 4), with both four-year-old's filling the placings behind Anamoe in the Apollo Stakes.

The champion trainer also prepares El Bodegon (barrier 12), who will be looking to improve off a ninth-place finish first-up in the Apollo Stakes.

This import created an impression on Australian debut with a third in last year's Cox Plate.

Annabel Neasham has dual representation via two-time Group 1 winner Mo'unga (barrier 11) and Laws Of Indices (barrier 6), the latter being very consistent despite having not won in Australia.

Huetor (barrier 9) returns off a very short summer campaign, having just the one run in The Ingham on December 10.

Prepared by Peter & Paul Snowden, this six-year-old is proven at Group 1 WFA level in Australia, having upset Zaaki in race record time via last year's Doomben Cup.

Knights Order (barrier 7), Stockman (barrier 10), Arapaho (barrier 2) and Benaud (barrier 5) are among the stayers in the final field, while four-time Group 1 winner Montefilia (barrier 8) is set to resume.

The David Payne-trained mare returned in the Chipping Norton Stakes last year before taking out the Ranvet Stakes, where she upset Verry Elleegant.

Chipping Norton Stakes Winners

The Chipping Norton Stakes headlines the first Group 1 program of the calendar year in Sydney, featuring alongside the Surround Stakes.

Gaining Group 1 status in 1986, this 1600m weight-for-age event has arguably become a stronger race since that upgrade, with Super Impose, Tie The Knot, Winx and Verry Elleegant all champions to have won this contest in the last 36 years.

The winner of the Chipping Norton Stakes is also exempt from ballot for both the Doncaster Handicap and Sydney Cup later in the autumn, so there's often a good mix of gallopers in the final field.

Te Akau Shark (2020) and Verry Elleegant (2021 and 2022) have won the last three editions of the Chipping Norton Stakes.
