Ole Kirk @ Vinery Stud Handicap Tips (Race 2)
Canterbury Next Best Bet - Race 2 No. 1 Castelbella
This filly is well bred, being by Castelvecchio out of Shabaia, who is a daughter of 2010 VRC Oaks winner Brazilian Pulse.
Her full brother, Castello Grande, is a useful middle-distance and staying type in Queensland, with those bloodlines indicating this filly should appreciate further in time.
She has shown significant improvement in her two most recent trials after being given time following a pair of hit-outs over summer.
The first of those recent trials came when catching the eye late for fourth at Warwick Farm, before she was narrowly beaten by Tatiana on June 9.
Tatiana contested some decent races during her first campaign, and this does not appear an overly strong race against her own sex, while Jason Collett has barrier two at his disposal here.
Inglis Xtra Bonus Plate Tips (Race 4)
Canterbury Value Bet - Race 4 No. 12 Saloon Passage
The race shape worked completely against Saloon Passage when resuming at Warwick Farm on June 3.
Settling back in a slowly run affair, she never threatened the leaders but still recorded the fastest final 600m, 400m and 200m of the entire program.
The rise in distance is a positive for the daughter of Contributor, who was generally consistent throughout her first campaign.
Prior to a disappointing Canterbury effort at her fourth start, she had placed at this circuit behind Matia, who is now a two-time Group 3 winner.
Her debut second behind Aisle Two also reads well, with that filly defeating the talented Soverato at Rosehill before producing a competitive Group 3 performance at Kembla Grange.
Ranvet Handicap Tips (Race 5)
Canterbury Favourite - Race 5 No. 3 Full Hao
While Full Hao did not measure up at stakes level in Queensland as a late three-year-old, she has been mostly thereabouts either side of those appearances.
Her second career victory came after a hat-trick of placings, while there were also some handy form references around her Melbourne performances last spring.
The mare was unlucky not to record back-to-back wins when badly held up at Randwick on December 20 after heading north.
Her May 6 return was only a pass mark, although she brought no prior first-up form into that assignment.
The latest effort was much better than it reads, with Full Hao recording the fastest closing sectionals of the race after being dragged back from a wide draw, and this appears a slightly easier assignment at midweek level.
Asahi Super Dry Handicap Tips (Race 6)
Canterbury Best Bet - Race 6 No. 4 Elle Hudson
On a tricky program for a standout, Elle Hudson can be supported on an each-way basis in the penultimate.
The Joe Pride-trained five-year-old arrives third-up after an honest second-up performance on June 3, where he lacked the turn of foot to challenge Hovland over a mile.
That galloper had been knocking on the door, while Elle Hudson still held a comfortable margin over the remainder of the field in second.
His first-up effort was also encouraging when making ground from the rear over 1300m on May 20, and the rise to 1900m is around his sweet spot, with his last win coming over this distance.
There are strong form references around his previous campaign, including a fourth-place finish in a Wyong Cup Prelude won by subsequent Group 1 winner and Q22 victor Royal Supremacy, while Age Of Sail later won the Port Macquarie Cup and was also competitive at stakes level.
