Australia are expected to rebound strongly in the 1st T20I against Bangladesh following their ODI series setback, largely due to the return of Mitchell Marsh and an improved T20 squad featuring specialist players. The shorter format suits Australia's strengths, with key predictions focusing on Josh Inglis scoring over 22.5 runs and both Adam Zampa and Nathan Ellis claiming 2+ wickets each. While Bangladesh will challenge at home, Australia's T20 pedigree and squad depth make them favorites for the series opener in Chattogram.

Bangladesh vs Australia, 1st T20I 2026 - Expert Prediction

Australia are well placed to hit back in the T20I series despite losing the ODI leg 2-1. The return of Mitchell Marsh, the inclusion of proven T20 specialists and the shorter format itself should suit the tourists far more than the slow-burn ODI contests in Dhaka.

Bangladesh deserve enormous credit for securing their first ODI series win over Australia, but T20 cricket is a different challenge. Australia's squad now features established match-winners such as Marsh, Tim David, Josh Inglis, Cameron Green and Adam Zampa, giving them considerably more firepower than the group that struggled through much of the ODI series.

Josh Inglis remains one of Australia's key players. He finished the ODI series with 74 runs and has consistently shown he thrives in subcontinent conditions. Batting in the top order, Inglis should have enough opportunity to clear a modest 22.5-run line.

Adam Zampa also looks primed for a strong series. Chattogram has historically rewarded quality spin bowling, with the average first innings score sitting at just 156 in men's T20 internationals. Zampa's ability to attack batters through the middle overs makes him Australia's most dangerous wicket-taking option and backing him for 2+ wickets appeals immediately.

Nathan Ellis is another bowler who enters the series in excellent form. He was one of Australia's best performers during the ODI leg, claiming three wickets in the opening match and regularly troubling Bangladesh's batters with his variations. T20 cricket is arguably his strongest format and his death bowling skills should again place him among the wickets.

Bangladesh will be competitive on home soil and their bowling attack remains a genuine threat, but Australia's superior T20 pedigree and improved squad depth make them the team to beat in the series opener.

Take Australia to win. Josh Inglis over 22.5 runs. Adam Zampa 2+ wickets and Nathan Ellis 2+ wickets are the side bets.

  • Australia are ranked No.3 in the ICC Men's T20I rankings with a rating of 258.
  • Bangladesh are ranked No.8 in the ICC Men's T20I rankings with a rating of 225.
  • The average first innings score in men's T20Is at Chattogram is 156.
  • Josh Inglis scored 74 runs during the ODI series and is expected to move into a more natural T20 role.
  • Nathan Ellis took three wickets in the ODI series and remains one of Australia's premier T20 bowlers.

Head to Head

Bangladesh claimed the ODI series 2-1, securing their first series victory over Australia in any international format.

The shorter format has historically favoured Australia, however, and the tourists arrive with a significantly stronger squad for the T20I leg of the tour.

Bangladesh Form Analysis

Bangladesh carry confidence into the T20I series after defeating Australia in the ODI series. Their bowling attack was the difference throughout the 50-over contests, with pace and spin combining effectively on slow surfaces.

Litton Das captains the side and will be supported by dangerous T20 players including Parvez Hossain Emon, Tawhid Hridoy and Rishad Hossain. The hosts also retain a strong pace attack featuring Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana.

Bangladesh's recent T20I results have been mixed, with the Tigers recently drawing a series against a depleted New Zealand side. Home conditions remain their biggest advantage.

Australia Form Analysis

Australia were disappointing during the ODI series but the move to T20 cricket significantly strengthens their outlook.

Mitchell Marsh returns to captain the side, while Tim David, Aaron Hardie and Spencer Johnson provide additional power and experience. Australia possess greater batting depth and considerably more T20 experience than the ODI squad that toured Dhaka.

The bowling attack is also better suited to the format. Zampa remains Australia's premier white-ball spinner, while Ellis, Johnson and Meredith offer wicket-taking options throughout the innings.

Bangladesh Squad

Litton Das (c), Parvez Hossain Emon, Tanzid Hasan, Saif Hassan, Shamim Hossain, Tawhid Hridoy, Nurul Hasan, Mahedi Hasan, Nasum Ahmed, Rishad Hossain, Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Nahid Rana, Abdul Gaffar Saqlain.

Bangladesh have retained much of the core group that defeated Australia in the ODI series. Parvez Hossain Emon enters the series in strong domestic and international T20 form and shapes as a key player at the top of the order.

Australia Squad

Mitchell Marsh (c), Xavier Bartlett, Nikhil Chaudhary, Cooper Connolly, Tim David, Joel Davies, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie, Josh Inglis, Spencer Johnson, Matthew Kuhnemann, Riley Meredith, Josh Philippe, Matthew Renshaw, Adam Zampa.

The return of Marsh is a major boost for Australia. Tim David, Aaron Hardie and Spencer Johnson also strengthen the side considerably compared to the ODI squad, giving Australia far more explosiveness with both bat and ball.
