BBL 2026-27 Squads: Every Team's Contracted Players, Ins & Outs

The countdown to BBL|16 is underway, with all eight Big Bash clubs beginning to shape their squads for the 2026-27 season following Perth Scorchers' record-extending sixth championship. Clubs can now build towards their 18-player rosters after the contracting embargo was lifted in late August, while the removal of the overseas player draft means international players can once again negotiate directly with clubs.

There is still plenty of business to be done before the season begins, with a number of major Australian and international names remaining unsigned.

This BBL 2026-27 squad guide will be updated throughout the off-season as clubs announce new signings, re-signings and player departures.

Adelaide Strikers Squad 2026-27

Contracted players: Alex Carey, Mackenzie Harvey, Thomas Kelly, Lloyd Pope, Jason Sangha, Liam Scott, Matt Short, Ben Stokes, Tom Straker, Henry Thornton, Jerrssis Wadia.

In: Ben Stokes (England)

Out: None confirmed.

Uncontracted: Hassan Ali, Cameron Boyce, Jordan Buckingham, Travis Head, Chris Lynn, Harry Manenti, Harry Nielsen, Jamie Overton, Alex Ross, Tabraiz Shamsi, Luke Wood.

The Strikers have made arguably the biggest move of the off-season by signing former England captain Ben Stokes. He joins a core featuring Matt Short and Alex Carey, while breakout allrounder Jerrssis Wadia has earned a full contract. The big questions surround Travis Head and Chris Lynn, who both remain uncontracted, with Head's international availability again likely to be a factor.

Brisbane Heat Squad 2026-27

Contracted players: Xavier Bartlett, Max Bryant, Lachlan Hearne, Spencer Johnson, Matt Kuhnemann, Nathan McSweeney, Michael Neser, Matthew Renshaw, Callum Vidler, Hugh Weibgen, Jack Wildermuth.

In: None confirmed.

Out: None confirmed.

Uncontracted: Shaheen Shah Afridi, Tom Alsop, Tom Balkin, Paddy Dooley, Liam Haskett, Zaman Khan, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Colin Munro, Oli Patterson, Jimmy Peirson, Jack Wood.

Brisbane have retained plenty of their younger core, with Xavier Bartlett, Spencer Johnson, Max Bryant and Hugh Weibgen all secured and Michael Neser extended for another two seasons. However, there are some significant decisions still to come, particularly around free agents Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne. James Hopes also takes charge as the Heat's third head coach in three years.

Hobart Hurricanes Squad 2026-27

Contracted players: Nikhil Chaudhary, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Ben McDermott, Riley Meredith, Mitch Owen, Billy Stanlake, Matthew Wade, Jake Weatherald, Beau Webster.

In: None confirmed.

Uncontracted: Rehan Ahmed, Marcus Bean, Jackson Bird, Hugo Burdon, Iain Carlisle, Rishad Hossain, Chris Jordan, Will Prestwidge, Charlie Wakim, Tim Ward, Mac Wright.

Hobart already have the majority of their championship-winning core locked away. Tim David, Mitch Owen, Ben McDermott, Matthew Wade and Beau Webster give the Hurricanes plenty of batting depth, while Nathan Ellis and Riley Meredith headline the attack. Tim Ward could be one to watch on the open market after scoring 200 runs last season, while Chris Jordan is also out of contract.

Melbourne Renegades Squad 2026-27

Contracted players: Michael Archer, Jason Behrendorff, Josh Brown, Harry Dixon, Brendan Doggett, Sam Elliott, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Caleb Jewell, Ollie Peake, Tom Rogers, Callum Stow, Will Sutherland.

In: Michael Archer.

Out: Fergus O'Neill (Sydney Sixers), Andrew Tye (retired).

Uncontracted: Hassan Khan, Muhammad Rizwan, Nathan Lyon, Will Salzmann, Gurinder Sandhu, Tim Seifert, Matthew Spoors, Adam Zampa.

It has been a significant off-season of change for the Renegades, with Luke Ronchi replacing Cameron White as head coach and Fergus O'Neill moving to the Sixers. Adam Zampa's future is one of their biggest remaining questions, while Gurinder Sandhu is also unsigned despite taking 18 wickets during the BBL|15 regular season. Michael Archer and Callum Stow have been added to strengthen the spin stocks.

Melbourne Stars Squad 2026-27

Contracted players: Austin Anlezark, Hilton Cartwright, Sam Harper, Liam Hatcher, Campbell Kellaway, Glenn Maxwell, Tom Rogers, Peter Siddle, Marcus Stoinis, Mitch Swepson, Todd Murphy.

In: Todd Murphy.

Out: None confirmed.

Uncontracted: Scott Boland, Joe Clarke, Tom Curran, Sam Hain, Blake Macdonald, Hamish McKenzie, Jon Merlo, Haris Rauf, Aryan Sharma, Mark Steketee, Tom Whitney.

Keeping Glenn Maxwell was the Stars' most important piece of business, with the veteran committing through BBL|17 despite rival interest. BBL|15 Player of the Tournament Sam Harper is also secured, while Todd Murphy arrives to form a new spin combination with Mitch Swepson. Cameron White takes over as head coach after crossing from the Renegades.

Perth Scorchers Squad 2026-27

Contracted players: Ashton Agar, Mahli Beardman, Cooper Connolly, Aaron Hardie, Calvin Harrison, Mitch Marsh, Lance Morris, Joel Paris, Jhye Richardson, Ashton Turner.

In: Calvin Harrison (England).

Out: Matthew Kelly (retired).

Uncontracted: Finn Allen, Brody Couch, Joel Curtis, Laurie Evans, Sam Fanning, Nick Hobson, Luke Holt, Josh Inglis, Bryce Jackson, David Payne, Corey Rocchiccioli.

The defending champions once again have a formidable Australian core, with Ashton Turner, Mitch Marsh, Aaron Hardie, Cooper Connolly and Jhye Richardson among those secured. English leg-spinner Calvin Harrison is their first international signing, but two major pieces remain unresolved: Josh Inglis and Finn Allen are both currently uncontracted after playing important roles in Perth's BBL|15 title triumph.

Sydney Sixers Squad 2026-27

Contracted players: Sean Abbott, Joel Davies, Ollie Davies, Ben Dwarshuis, Jack Edwards, Hayden Kerr, Fergus O'Neill, Josh Philippe, Lachlan Shaw, Jordan Silk, Steve Smith.

In: Ollie Davies (Sydney Thunder), Fergus O'Neill (Melbourne Renegades).

Out: Kane Richardson (retired), Moises Henriques (retired), Todd Murphy (Melbourne Stars).

Uncontracted: Babar Azam, Jafer Chohan, Sam Curran, Josh Hazlewood, Daniel Hughes, Riley Kingsell, Ben Manenti, Mitch Perry, Jake Scott, Harjas Singh, Mitchell Starc, Charlie Stobo.

The Sixers have been the busiest club so far. Ollie Davies and Fergus O'Neill are strong domestic additions, while Matthew Mott has taken over as head coach. The retirement of long-time captain Moises Henriques signals a changing of the guard, although Steve Smith and Sean Abbott remain contracted. Mitchell Starc is among the headline free agents, although Australia's Test schedule could restrict his BBL availability.

Sydney Thunder Squad 2026-27

Contracted players: Cameron Bancroft, Sam Billings, Matt Gilkes, Chris Green, Ryan Hadley, Sam Konstas, Aidan O'Connor, Daniel Sams, Tanveer Sangha, David Warner.

Sydney Thunder are looking for a major turnaround after finishing bottom of BBL|15, with Andrew Flintoff taking over as head coach. David Warner has extended his deal after leading the competition with 433 regular-season runs at an average of 86.60, while Sam Konstas is locked in through BBL|18. The loss of Ollie Davies to the Sixers hurts, and there remains plenty of roster work ahead with Pat Cummins, Nic Maddinson and Nathan McAndrew among those currently uncontracted.
