Format
The Asia Cup was initially played in ODI format but in 2015 it was decided that the tournament from 2016 will be played on a rotation basis between ODI and T20I format, based on the format of upcoming world event.
The 2016 edition was the first one to be played in the T20I format to serve as preparation ahead of the ICC World T20 tournament. The 2018 tournament will be played in the ODI format to help teams prepare for the 2019 ODI World Cup.
It is now exclusively a T20 format.
