Leading Melbourne Cup Jockeys
The 164th running of the Melbourne Cup will take place in 2024 and the futures market has been assembled.
While the 12 winners from master trainer Bart Cummings is unlikely to ever be surpassed, it's a much more competitive leaderboard among the jockeys.
Sitting on top with four Melbourne Cup wins each is Bobbie Lewis (1902, 1915, 1919, 1927) and Harry White (1974, 1975, 1978, 1979), while Kerrin McEvoy (2000, 2016, 2018) and Damien Oliver (1995, 2002, 2013) are current day jockeys who have three wins.
On top with 129 Group 1 wins overall, Damien Oliver is arguably Australia's greatest-ever jockey, although Oliver is now retired, with the champion hoop finishing off in style with a hat-trick of wins from his last three rides.
On the other hand, Kerrin McEvoy is one of the great lightweight hoops in the country, which opens up more doors in Melbourne Cups and at 43 years of age, he's going to have a great chance to at least equal this record.
