Mr Brightside (barrier 4) will once again resume in the C.F. Orr Stakes and while the four-time Group 1 winner had to settle fifth when first-up in this feature last year, he did win the P.B. Lawrence Stakes over this track/trip when fresh in August.

Pride Of Jenni (barrier 3) was the giant-killer on the last day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, where the six-year-old upset more fancied rivals when leading throughout in the Champions Mile and that performance followed an Empire Rose triumph seven days prior on Derby Day.

Atishu (barrier 7) rounded out her spring campaign with a dominant display in the Group 1 Champions Stakes at Flemington and while she generally prospers over more ground these days, four of her nine career wins have come at 1400m.

After mainly defeating mainly older rivals first-up over 1200m in the Australia Stakes from Moonee Valley, Veight (barrier 2) will aiming to get a Group 1 win on the resume this campaign after three competitive runs at this level last year.

Veight will have a fitness edge on the proven class runners here.

Versatile Godolphin galloper Pericles (barrier 5) won a strong 1000m trial at Warwick Farm on January 30 and 1400m first-up will suit him, with the gelding having saluted over this distance via his August return last year.

It was a consistent early four-year-old campaign from Pericles, who recorded back-to-back victories before placings in both the Silver Eagle and Golden Eagle.

2023 Railway Stakes winner Bustler (barrier 6) heads east and the Neville Parnham-trained galloper is often dangerous fresh, with two first-up wins recorded over sprint trips.

CF Orr Stakes Winners

The C.F. Orr Stakes is the first Group 1 of the calendar in Australia, a 1400m weight-for-age event run over 1400m at Caulfield.

It was traditonally a race for stayers to kick off their autumn campaigns, with past winners such at Talaq, Let's Elope, Jeune and Saintly included on the honour roll, however, more recent editions have mainly been dominated by sprinter/milers.

The C.F. Orr Stakes gained Group 1 status in 1993, although many famous winners precede that announcement, with Flight, Tobin Bronze, Manikato and Vo Rogue among the champions to have won this 1400m feature.

Streets Of Avalon (2021), Tofane (2022) and Jacquinot (2023) have won the last three editions of the C.F. Orr Stakes.
