Denmark vs Portugal UEFA Nations League Tips & Prediction - Portugal to win without Ronaldo in Copenhagen

Portugal are tipped to continue their undefeated form in the Nations League as they visit Denmark, riding high on Joao Felix’s scoring streak and recent managerial changes that saw Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit. Portugal have historically dominated this matchup, winning 12 out of 18 games, and Denmark’s recent struggles plus injury setbacks further tilt the odds in Portugal’s favor. Expect the visitors to secure victory and potentially keep a clean sheet, with Felix likely to find the net again.

Denmark vs Portugal UEFA Nations League Tips & Prediction

Two-time winners Portugal are backed to continue their strong start to the Nations League when they travel to Copenhagen to face Denmark on Thursday night, with Joao Felix looking to find the back of the net for the third game in a row.

Unsurprisingly, much of the conversation in the lead-up to this game has surrounded Cristiano Ronaldo after he left the Portuguese camp amid a rift with new manager Jorge Jesus.

Whatever the reason, it should benefit the national side - Portugal have been criticised for years now for continuting to deploy Ronaldo up front, despite the veteran forward barely moving and throwing tantrums when he doesn't score or have the ball delivered to his feet on a silver platter.

It looks like Jesus has finally made the tough call and now Portugal can move forward after an encouraging start to their Nations League trophy defence.

Denmark meanwhile remain in mixed form after failing to qualify for the World Cup and they are set to be outclassed on home soil here.

Portugal have dominated this matchup and I'm backing the visitors to pick up a 13th victory over the Danes. Felix has been in prolific form over the last week and can get on the scoresheet once more.
  • Portugal are unbeaten in 11 of their last 12 games
  • Portugal have won their opening two Nations League games
  • Portugal have kept a clean sheet in three of their last five games
  • Portugal have won five of their last seven away games
  • Jorge Jesus has won 24 of his last 27 games as manager in all comps
  • Denmark have won just three of their last eight games
  • Joao Felix has scored in both Nations League games to start the competition

Denmark vs Portugal Head To Head

Portugal have enjoyed lots of success in this H2H, winning 12 of the previous 18 meetings, including four of the last five and a 5-2 victory on their way to last year's Nations League title.

Denmark Form Analysis

It's been a disappointing last 12 months or so for Denmark.

They blew a golden ticket to qualify for the World Cup, drawing with Belarus at home and losing to Scotland away before falling to Czechia in the playoffs.

Brian Riemer's side started their Nations League campaign with a 3-2 defeat to Scandinavian rivals Norway, but got back to the winners circle with a 2-0 dispatch of Wales in their last outing.

After having a goal ruled out for offside in the first half, Gustav Isaksen got on the scoresheet in the second half after an own goal from Ben Davies initially gave Denmark the lead.

Denmark Team News

A bit of a blow from the win over Wales, with Patrick Dorgu picking up a hamstring injury that has seen him depart the Danish camp.

Mohamed Daramy came on as his replacement and could come into the starting side for this one.

Alexander Bah, Andreas Christensen, Albert Gronbaek and Kasper Dolberg remains sidelined with injury.

Denmark Possible Starting XI (4-2-3-1): Filip Jörgensen; Rasmus Kristensen, Joachim Andersen, Oliver Provstgaard, Joakim Maehle; Morten Hjulmand, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg; Gustav Isaksen, Mikkel Damsgaard, Mohamed Daramy; Rasmus Hojlund

Portugal Form Analysis

It was a decent World Cup for Portugal, but after moving past Croatia, they were one of the many sides to fall victim to Spain in the R16, suffering a 1-0 defeat.

Jorge Jesus has taken over as manager from Roberto Martinez and has already put his foot down, with Ronaldo exiting the Nations League camp, casting doubt over the legendary striker's future for the national team going forward.

Nevertheless, Portugal have taken a maximum six points to start their Nations League trophy defence, beating Wales 1-0 before a 2-1 triumph over Norway.

Joao Felix was on target in both victories, while Goncalo Ramos bagged the winner against Norway.

Portugal Team News

Obviously the big news is Ronaldo's exit, which should lead to Ramos starting up front.

Vitinha should return in midfield, as should Bruno Fernandes, who missed the win over Norway.

Portugal Possible Starting XI (4-4-1-1): Diogo Costa; João Cancelo; Rúben Dias, Renato Veiga, Nuno Mendes; Pedro Neto, Vitinha, Rúben Neves, Rafael Leão; João Félix; Gonçalo Ramos

Verdict

Portugal are backed for the win in Copenhagen, extra value on keeping a clean sheet & Felix scoring for a third straight game.
