A quality 10-race program is set for Flemington on Saturday, headlined by the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes over 2000m.

The supporting card is stacked with spring features, including the Edward Manifold Stakes, Rose Of Kingston Stakes, Danehill Stakes, The Bart Cummings and Gilgai Stakes, with several key lead-ups towards the major races later in the carnival.

Our race-by-race betting tips and selections for Flemington are below, while analysis for all codes can be found through Live Racing & Sports Updates.

Flemington Tips October 3

Race 1 - Darley Maribyrnong Trial Stakes Tips (1000m)

We get our first look at Melbourne's juveniles for the season in the Maribyrnong Trial Stakes, and with every runner making their race-day debut, there is naturally plenty of guesswork involved.

4. Silent Intent heads the early market after winning both Flemington jump-outs leading into this. There was still a little greenness in the latest on September 24, but the Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained colt looks forward enough for his first race-day appearance, with Jye McNeil remaining aboard from barrier one.

3. Proverb is a big watch heading south for Michael Freedman, one of the stronger juvenile yards, with Blake Shinn taking the ride on the Written Tycoon colt. He was hard to miss when swooping to win an 850m Randwick-Kensington trial on September 21.

1. Ankaa is one of three McEvoy acceptances and becomes the first runner from Anamoe's first crop. He responded when asked in his September 24 Flemington jump-out and looks open to plenty of improvement.

7. Musandam has also won both of her jump-outs, including an 800m Flemington heat on September 24, and the John McArdle-trained filly has shown enough raw ability to warrant respect.

Selections: 4-3-1-7.

Race 2 - TAB One Pool Tips (1200m)

Willing to forgive the September 12 resumption from 14. Ruska Roma, who was slow away and never suited by a race shape that heavily favoured those closer to the speed.

She was better than the result reads, working home with the second-fastest final 200m after being out of contention early. The Grahame Begg-trained mare has shown stakes-class ability previously and is now back to BM78 company, while both of her wins have come on rain-affected ground.

20. Hankee Alpha is a big watch if she gains a start. The ex-New Zealand mare joins Cindy Alderson having already shown an ability to handle testing conditions, including a win on heavy ground, and Craig Williams takes the ride for her Australian debut.

It is difficult to split 11. Cabriole and 13. Esmahli after their BM78 clash at Caulfield Heath on September 16. Cabriole prevailed by 0.35 lengths there, with Esmahli finishing second, and both look capable of measuring up again.

Selections: 14-20-11-13.

Race 3 - Howden Super Impose Stakes Tips (1800m)

The Victoria Derby path now looks the obvious direction for 5. Vallice, who steps sharply to 1800m after producing a much more encouraging effort in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude on September 19.

The Ciaron Maher-trained colt had failed to settle at his previous run, but was ridden colder in the Prelude and worked home solidly from off the speed. Mark Zahra goes back aboard, the larger Flemington circuit should suit and the son of Maurice looks a progressive type with further improvement to come.

2. Lepolo heads the early market after making it two wins from two at Sandown on September 5. He missed the start, came from the rear and still opened up a 3.5-length margin over 1500m on Soft 7 ground, suggesting the rise to 1800m should hold no fears.

10. True Rebel backed up a promising Bendigo debut by breaking through over 1525m at Geelong on September 23. He continues to progress in the right direction and Danny O'Brien knows how to develop these young middle-distance types.

9. Frank Whisper looks the Derby horse in the race and may even want further than 1800m now, but the bigger Flemington circuit is a positive and he should not be dismissed at a big price.

Selections: 5-2-10-9.

Race 4 - TAB One Pool Edward Manifold Stakes Tips (1600m)

Grahame Begg looks to have another smart filly in 3. Profligate, who has shown above-average ability in four starts.

She won on debut before finishing runner-up to Blind Raise in the Listed Anzac Day Stakes at Flemington. Her return in the Atlantic Jewel Stakes over 1300m was encouraging, and she again finished strongly when third in the Thousand Guineas Prelude at Caulfield, making ground despite struggling around the bend in an on-speed-dominated race.

The rise to 1600m on the bigger Flemington circuit looks ideal and, while she is yet to race on genuinely heavy ground, she shapes as though the extra trip will suit.

4. Salann is the value runner. Her first preparation included a runner-up finish to Satono Glow in the Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes and another second behind Diameter in the Listed Fernhill Stakes over 1600m. Her first-up Bendigo run can be forgiven after settling back from a wide draw and finding inferior ground closer to the inside.

11. Stipulation continues to improve with racing, having been unlucky on debut before running into a smart Regal Ambition and then breaking through at Geelong under John Allen. The rise to the mile looks another logical step.

5. Portinari has been costly but brings similar form to Profligate and had excuses when held up at key stages in the Thousand Guineas Prelude.

Selections: 3-4-11-5.

Race 5 - Cirka Rose Of Kingston Stakes Tips (1400m)

4. Cilacap makes some each-way appeal first-up after putting together a strong previous preparation that culminated in victory in the Group 2 Queen Of The South Stakes at Morphettville.

The Grahame Begg-trained mare has been given a solid grounding through September and has shown previously that she can sprint well fresh. The 1400m is a suitable starting point and, while a heavy track is an unknown, her four outings on soft ground have produced three wins and a third, including a first-up victory over this track and trip.

16. Mareth can also be supported each-way, a mare who brings a different form line after finishing second over this distance in the Group 3 Tibbie Stakes at Newcastle third-up. The Godolphin runner arrives hard fit, has already shown she can handle soft ground and her late three-year-old form was quite strong.

7. Gold Coast Belle was disappointing as favourite in the Let's Elope Stakes, but that may simply have been a flat second-up run. She was a strong fresh winner on testing ground and produced a sharp third-up improvement during her previous campaign.

15. Gold Medallist comes through the same Let's Elope Stakes and brings a strong third-up profile, while her wet-track statistics also make for good reading.

Selections: 4-16-7-15.

Race 6 - Asahi Super Dry Danehill Stakes Tips (1100m)

The Danehill Stakes is regularly a strong form reference for the three-year-olds and its honour roll underlines that, with Sepoy, Snitzerland, Rich Enuff, Catchy and Giga Kick among the past winners of this Flemington straight-track feature.

3. The Next Episode had excuses on debut before progressing rapidly later in his juvenile campaign, winning three of his next four starts, all on rain-affected ground. His Brisbane form was particularly impressive, including a dominant win in the Magic Millions National Two-Year-Old Classic where he defeated Natural Fling.

10. Natural Fling brings the race fitness. She was a four-length winner first-up in the Quezette Stakes before taking on older sprinters in the Group 1 Moir Stakes, where her performance had merit against seasoned opposition. She has since won a Flemington jump-out and has already proven herself on wet ground.

Lloyd Kennewell has a smart colt in 7. Mbube, who impressed on testing ground at Sandown during his first preparation. He was beaten as favourite in the Poseidon Stakes first-up on September 12 but went down by only a length and should improve with that run under his belt.

4. Alibaba is a huge price but showed enough class through his two-year-old season to suggest the quote says more about the depth of this race than his own ability.

Selections: 3-10-7-4.

Race 7 - The Lexus Bart Cummings Tips (2520m)

The crossover between The Metropolitan in Sydney and The Bart Cummings creates some uncertainty around the final make-up of the field, but 7. Juja Kibo looks very well placed should he take his place at Flemington, especially with Aethelwulf confirmed for The Metropolitan.

The Ciaron Maher-trained import has been racing consistently, with a brave return before another good effort in Sydney last start. The rise to 2520m third-up looks ideal, he has strong wet-track credentials and his most recent run in the anti-clockwise direction resulted in a dominant Sandown victory.

14. Jennivamoose continues to build fitness after a long layoff and has finished third in all three runs this preparation, including the Archer Stakes over 2500m at Flemington on September 12. She drops 2.5kg from that run and should now be approaching peak fitness.

2. Berkeley Square is a bolter worth respecting after covering ground in the Naturalism Stakes last start and still racing respectably. Flemington has always suited him, with four wins at the circuit, and his record on rain-affected ground is another positive.

3. Campaldino has failed to figure in two runs this preparation, but blinkers go back on and he has a strong record on heavy ground. A sharp improvement would not surprise.

Selections: 7-14-2-3.

Race 8 - TAB Turnbull Stakes Tips (2000m)

There was enough to like about 2. Sir Delius in the Makybe Diva Stakes first-up, where the mile was simply too sharp against Sheza Alibi and company, yet he still worked home soundly into fourth.

Getting to 2000m is a major positive. The son of Frankel has three wins and a placing from four starts at the trip, is unbeaten from two runs on heavy ground and won this race last year under Craig Williams, who stays aboard for the title defence.

8. Ohope Wins is the value runner after showing much more than the bare result suggests when ninth in the Makybe Diva Stakes. She had disappointed first-up in the P.B. Lawrence Stakes before winning a Flemington jump-out on September 4, then warmed strongly through the line over the mile last start and recorded the fourth-fastest final 200m.

As a dual New Zealand Oaks and Australian Oaks winner, the daughter of Ocean Park should relish getting to a genuinely testing 2000m. Blake Shinn takes over and, if he can have the occasionally slow-starting mare closer to the race early, she is capable of running into the top three or four at a big price.

5. Aeliana rounded out her autumn with two Group 1 victories on rain-affected ground, defeating Sir Delius in the Ranvet Stakes before beating Dubai Honour in the Tancred Stakes. Her second-up Seven Stakes effort behind Autumn Glow was a clear improvement and the return to 2000m suits.

4. Cosmic Crusader continues to race well, winning his first two Melbourne starts on wet ground before having excuses in the Memsie Stakes. He then finished second in the Underwood Stakes and comfortably cleared the rest, so he arrives hard fit and well drawn.

Selections: 2-8-5-4.

Race 9 - Gilgai Stakes Tips (1200m)

15. Skybird is extremely well treated under the set-weights-and-penalties conditions, carrying 55kg despite being the highest-rated runner in the race.

She has not won since her Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning success in February 2025, but she has remained competitive at the highest level, including a third in the TJ Smith Stakes on Soft 7 ground earlier this year. She has also won a jump-out since her September 5 Moir Stakes return.

Her Flemington record is another major positive, having never finished outside the placings in three starts at the track, all on rain-affected surfaces. This looks a genuine opportunity for the Mitchell Freedman-trained mare to return to the winner's list.

6. Smooth Chino built an excellent record in Western Australia before moving with his trainer to South Australia and resumed with a good third under 62kg in the Wylie Handicap. He should improve second-up and has the class to measure up, although heavy ground remains an unknown.

5. Losesomewinmore has to be respected given his outstanding Flemington record, with six of his eight wins coming at the track, including the Group 2 Bobbie Lewis Stakes on September 12. He is statistically stronger on good ground but produced a strong effort on heavy going two starts back.

8. Jimmy Recard has not raced since the Coolmore Stud Stakes last spring but is a previous straight-track winner and all of his career victories have come on rain-affected ground.

Selections: 15-6-5-8.

Race 10 - HKJC World Pool Paris Lane Stakes Tips (1400m)

11. Ten Commandments has been a huge improver since joining Ciaron Maher and continues to hold his form deep into the campaign.

He put together wins through May and June, including a Flemington BM84 success, before continuing to race well through the winter. His fourth in the So You Think Stakes at Sandown on September 5 had merit in a race that suited the swoopers, before he produced another terrific effort to win the Gold Nugget at Ballarat on September 18.

That victory over a handy Al Duca was also his first on good ground, having previously done his best work on wet tracks, and he remains unbeaten from two starts on heavy going.

17. Roulette King is the most exciting horse in the race going forward if he gains a start. He progressed rapidly through his three-year-old season, winning four straight after his debut defeat and culminating in the Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes over 2000m. He has had plenty of work leading into his return and Jamie Mott stays aboard, although testing ground would be new territory.

4. Amenable returned with a good third at Group 3 level and was making his stable debut for Grahame Begg. His overall winning strike rate is modest, but his best form is more than good enough. His only Heavy 10 look was as runner-up when splitting Magic Time and Private Eye in the 2024 All Aged Stakes.

2. Cafe Millenium gets the winkers back on third-up and the Flemington 1400m is his ideal setup. He would be easier to trust on a firmer surface, with the major query being how he handles genuinely testing ground.

Selections: 11-17-4-2.
